Resist and Unsubscribe

Don Lemon, the former CNN anchor, was arrested today. Targeting journalists is not about enforcing the law, but shaping reality. History reflects a brutal truth: When you begin arresting journalists, your nation becomes angrier and poorer.

_____________

After the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, many people feel powerless. Praised by tech CEOs, surrounded by sycophants, emboldened by multimillion-dollar settlements, and enriched by his return to the White House, Trump marches on unchecked. Americans, however, have overlooked a potent weapon of resistance. First, we should recognize that the president is unfazed by outrage and unmoved by protests. What does he care about? A: The markets. The best strategy is to opt out. We’re asking you to join a monthlong national economic strike, a coordinated campaign that targets tech and AI companies and inflicts maximum damage with minimum impact on consumers.

Ripple Effect

Protesters are playing a critical role in challenging Trump’s war on the “enemy within” and documenting the activities of his masked, heavily-armed, and poorly trained paramilitary force. But until the Republicans lose their grip on Washington and the president’s acolytes can be held accountable — and in some cases put on trial — the opposition needs bold new methods.

We’re not talking about a labor strike. It’s easy for me to tell other people to stop working and take the risk of getting fired; that kind of walkout would only hurt small businesses and probably lead to more job losses. We’re also not urging local businesses to sacrifice sales and close their doors for a day, a symbolic but ultimately ineffective tool. We’re proposing something quieter and less cinematic than a protest that will run all day on cable TV, but much more disturbing to the Trump administration. A one-day slowdown is irritating. A one-month slump is terrifying.

With support for abolishing ICE growing and a bipartisan backlash prompting Trump to at least feign a more conciliatory approach in Minnesota, this is the moment to exert pressure. If you need inspiration before joining the movement, look at photos from the September meeting at which tech industry CEOs, including OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Apple’s Tim Cook, took turns fawning over the president. These are the leaders who have his ear. A modest reduction in their companies’ growth could have a substantial impact on valuations priced to perfection. Small changes in consumer behavior — starting on the first day of February — could have an enormous ripple effect, one that extends all the way to the White House.

Unsubscribe

We need to get tactical. If consumers cut back on cosmetics, reducing L’Oréal’s revenue by 2%, it’s not going to make a difference. If OpenAI’s revenue falls by 2%, it will. America’s economy is one giant bet on AI, with seven tech companies representing more than a third of the S&P 500. That means the best way to ignite positive change, without hurting consumers, is to carry out an economic strike the tech CEOs can’t ignore.

Unsubscribing to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude are among the first steps. Although only 5% of ChatGPT’s more than 800 million users last year paid for a subscription, a pullback would sting. If enough people cut spending on AI, it could spill over to other companies, including Nvidia and Microsoft. You could also unsubscribe from a range of other tech offerings — Amazon, Apple, Disney, Google, Microsoft, Netflix, and Uber — and hold off on buying your next iPhone or Mac. While tech and AI are the main focus, the strike could expand to target companies enabling ICE, including AT&T, Dell, and Fedex, which have contracts with the agency. (See all the options on the Resist and Unsubscribe website.)

Then document your decisions on Instagram — we’d target this platform, too, but we need some way to spread the message nationwide. Talk to your friends and outline what you’re not buying, adding cancelation screenshots and unsubscribe selfies. Articulate the objectives: forcing the president to end the occupation of cities by masked agents, respect the rule of law, and uphold American values. And yes, I’m participating.

If wealthy households reduce spending by 10% and middle- and lower-income households pull back by about 5% in a targeted economic strike, it will curb U.S. GDP virtually overnight, amplifying the impact while mitigating the harm to average American consumers and business owners. And just as Dry January offers an opportunity to scale back on alcohol, a February freeze on subscriptions and other purchases provides a chance for people to reset their consumption patterns. Use the month to review your subscriptions and drop the ones you don’t use.

You may decide this isn’t for you, or conclude it would hurt innocent people. I get it. Punishing America’s economy isn’t an act we propose lightly. But pain for some U.S. tech businesses in the short term could inspire real change — a small price for restoring our democracy.

Consumer Power

Consumers, whose spending accounts for more than two-thirds of the economy, wield enormous power. Few things worry leaders more than a decrease in their purchases. Consumer spending fell 3.4% during the Great Recession — at the time, the most severe year-over-year decline since World War II — and 9.8% during the second quarter of 2020, in the depths of the pandemic. Those events sparked two of the fastest political movements in history, with the U.S. spending huge sums to escape each crisis. In the case of Covid, economic data, not the death toll, was the main driver.

Americans in the top 10% income bracket, who account for about half of all consumer spending, play an especially important role. In outlining this idea in October, I estimated that those consumers could achieve a 1% decline in GDP with a 3% cut to their spending (setting aside multiplier effects, import leakages, and substitutions).

If we want to know how Trump might respond, consider recent history. After the president unveiled his “Liberation Day” tariffs last April, the ensuing turmoil in the bond market prompted the administration to pause most of its planned tariffs for 90 days. Bond investors were getting “yippy,” as the president explained. Wall Street soon had a term for this phenomenon — the TACO trade, for “Trump always chickens out.”

Earlier this month, Trump threatened to punish European nations if they didn’t cave to his demands to give him Greenland. Then the markets threw up, and the president reversed course, announcing he’d reached the “framework of a future deal” for Greenland and the Arctic. Stocks surged on the news.

Fortune 500 CEOs need to organize to resist the president as he bulldozes the values that make America great. Understandably, nobody wants to go first or be alone on this, but it’s the right thing to do. It also presents an opportunity to reap reputational and commercial gains. I feel for businesses in Minnesota — victims of the administration’s cruel and reckless immigration policies — and collective action is the way to go. But the letter signed by 60 CEOs of companies based in the state, including Best Buy, Target, and UnitedHealth, calling for state, local, and federal officials to “work together to find real solutions,” while positive, isn’t going to move the needle.

Cowardice

Republicans could stop Trump … if they had a spine. The CEOs of America’s largest corporations could also show up, but don’t hold your breath. If you’re waiting for these leaders to overcome their fear and share-price idolatry in the face of threats from the president, you’re going to suffocate. Trump put everyone on notice last week with his lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase and its CEO, Jamie Dimon, over allegations that the company stopped providing banking services to Trump and his businesses for political reasons after he left office in 2021. Bosses of big corporations know that won’t be the last battle the president wages, so rather than antagonizing him, they flatter Trump and keep their heads down. Without real pushback, things are likely to get worse.

You’d think that the death of Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse Trump officials accused of being a “domestic terrorist,” would have been a tipping point for business leaders. Yet on Saturday, hours after federal agents killed Pretti as he attempted to help a woman who’d been pushed to the ground and pepper-sprayed, CEOs including Cook and Amazon’s Andy Jassy attended a private White House screening to celebrate the Amazon MGM Studios-produced documentary Melania.

The courage is coming from the rank and file. Following Pretti’s death, more than 450 tech workers from Amazon, Google, Meta, OpenAI, Salesforce, and other companies signed a letter urging their CEOs to contact the White House, demand that ICE leave American cities, and cancel all company contracts with the enforcement agency. A senior executive at OpenAI, James Dyett, wrote on X that there was more outrage from tech executives over California’s proposed wealth tax “than masked ICE agents terrorizing communities and executing civilians in the streets.” Exactly.

Protest vs. Nonparticipation

As Heather Cox Richardson and other historians note, there are many ways to make a difference in dark times. She points out that Minnesotans are doing their part — patrolling the streets, donating food, helping with legal services, and looking out for one another — while organizations at the national level speak up. Voters in the midterm elections in November, meanwhile, will have a chance to dilute Trump’s power.

Until then, the best tool we have to push CEOs to take on the president and prevent further erosion of the American brand is in our pockets — an economic strike that builds on calls for Apple boycotts that are already starting to emerge. Real change always comes from the American people, not from our political parties. But power doesn’t fear protests nearly as much as economic withdrawals. Getting off your couch, taking to the streets, and building community is important, but the most radical act in a capitalist society isn’t marching, it’s not spending.

Life is so rich,

If corporations are “persons” fine them for overcharging and extortion. How do we impact contracted ICE detention owners?

I canceled Apple Care, deleted Facebook, deleted Uber, switched off AT&T, and talked to friends about doing the same. Thank you for risking failure to give us some way to push back on this evil (even if it’s small). I’d do more if you have additional ideas!

  4. Anony Mouse says:

I am in full agreement with this. Actually I subscribe to nothing, don’t use any social media, I don’t buy from Amazon. Social Media has led us into a new dark ages. Any pain from boycotting all this is offset by having a cleaner conscience in these cruel times.

  5. Clem Samuels says:

BTW, my antivirus and windows flagged your site as dangerous.

Hard to believe they went out of their way to torpedo you. Possible, but unlikely, so there must be something off about your web server or html code. consider giving it a peek.

Or if they HAVE tampered with your site (nasty worm), then file a billion dollar suit against them. These civil judgement DO give them pause.

  6. Clem Samuels says:

The idea is interesting. One proposal. For some services you propose we dump, suggest viable alternatives. It makes dumping them less painful. For some we keep, mightn’t we use the hell out of them? If they make their killing from subscriptions, make sure they lose it from those who SERIOUSLY use said subscriptions (e.g., Amazon Prime).

  7. Rayban says:

Well, here I go, sticking my neck out when I can easily be attacked using various means. Saw you on Amanpour today, and I appreciate this forum because if we talked enough, we might find we share many of the same cares and ideas. I have NEVER thought these rich guys need any more money, especially any of MY money. Yes, they need to be curbed because they’re not responsible enough to curb themselves. Not everyone is in the stock market. Do I really need all that cheap stuff that’s not so cheap anymore, anyway? Out of principle, I have paid higher prices — never subscribed to UBER, social media, streaming services, Amazon, etc. Here’s another way I am rebelling — for the ecology: Cutting out or cutting down on anything that uses a battery or a chip to cut down on use of use or precious metals — plug-ins and wind-ups ONLY! Don’t we need to move more, anyway? And, here’s another thought regarding ecology. If those ships in the Caribbean and oceans that were bombed were really carrying drugs, those drugs would be in the water, right? I have heard NOTHING about anyone looking into drugged fish — that we eat! PFAs are one thing, but what about other substances we’re not being protected from?

    • Anony Mouse says:

Thanks for your ecology comments and recommendations. I thoroughly read Professor Galloway’s suggestions and am compliant with those. You have given recommendations that add to my arsenal of resistance. Too bad there isn’t a maximum wage .

Well… I’ve deleted Facebook, paused Prime for the year, and cancelled Netflix. From someone who marched in D.C. against the Iraq war in ye olde college years and felt defeated by the feeling that it didn’t do enough, thanks for organizing something that might have real impact here.

Good luck Professor G! I don’t agree with you about everything but I sure do agree with you about resist and unsubscribe. This is really a brilliant campaign because we absolutely have power when we act cohesively. I have been thinking hard about it for the last two weeks. Just today I have unsubscribed from everything except YouTube, my only vice. \
Also, based on your comments, I tried again to watch the landman TV show. The brutality of the opening scene was too much for me the first time so I just skipped it. Unlike you, it did not make me feel like a republican. But it was quite a romp.

    – See the evidence of corruption in the U.S. Supreme Court discovered in investigations by the Senate Judiciary Committee and summarized in brief videos on YouTube, called “The Scheme”, presented by Judiciary Committee member, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. (as well as in his 2 books on the same subject.)
    – See Dr. Steven Hassan’s books on the illegal undue influence of cults in corporations, religious organizations, and social organizaitons at FreedomOfMind.com
    – See the nonpartisan forewarning about these reasonably foreseen crimes and abuse of authority of federal office, by Dr. Bandy X. Lee’s edited book, “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump” published before 2016 presidential election.- for applicable standards of legally foreseeable harms of both current and future leaders.
    – See 2025 book by author Lisa Graves for detailed historic tracking of systematic corruption of citizens’ rights, especially in elections, in “Without Precident: how chief justice Roberts and his accomplices rewrote the Constitution and dismantled our Rights.”

Citizens of each state can also take back voting right of Direct Recall vote for all members of both Congress and the Senate. This will partly remedy the dilution of power of Impeachment – the Constittion provided remedy against corrupt presidents, since the Wealth Class sustains only 2 political parties, at the regular funding over $3 Billion dollars every federal election cycle, to both Duopoly political parties.

    Jeff Bezos
c/o Amazon Corporate Headquarters
410 Terry Avenue North
Seattle, WA 98109-5210

    Dear Mr. Bezos,

I wanted to let you know that I have just canceled my Amazon Prime subscription, along with all my associated TV channel subscriptions. This was not a decision I made lightly.

For many years, I have done a great deal of shopping through Amazon and have come to rely on its convenience and selection. I’m honestly not quite sure how I’ll manage without it—but I’m sure as hell going to try.
What drove me to this point is my deep disgust with your politics and your sycophantic attitude toward Donald Trump. It’s disappointing to see someone who built a world-changing company from the ground up align himself with values so contrary to those of many long-time customers like me.

Amazon became what it is because ordinary people trusted it and supported it from its earliest days. If enough of us who are angry and disillusioned now decide to walk away, the company will find itself in a downward spiral that no amount of spin or promotion can stop.
    Sincerely,

  17. Gregory Rice says:

Consider the 2026 Montana state government non-partisan election reform proposal. They should simply recoke laws over all corporations in Montana from providing money to cnadidates or elections.

I proposed that citizens in each state vote to require candidates refuse and deny acceptance of all money from corporate or private sources, for campaigns/elections, uonder penalty of perjury oath. – just as is required of all witnesses in all U.S. law courts.

This brings up level of elections to standards of preservation of citizen rights in deliberative process of elections, to those used for 250 years by citizens, in every law court, in every city in the U.S.

This brings elections standards closer to citizen right options used by every town hall to every giant federal agency in evaluation or DELIBERATION of facts, evidence to qualify employment decisions by our government agencies. Temporary elected office holders should have no less serious evaluation of character and qualfiications for employment, than other government employees, but should endure even stricter scrutiny.

I”ll post specific citations and references next.

ALL political parties would be required to reorganize their work without the excess of $3 Billion dollars from corporate and private donors, every federal election cycle of 2, 4, 6 years.

  18. Gregory Rice says:

    1. I challenge you, Professor Galloway, to provide as clear a response for a permanent, long term strategic “boycott” by means of more just, fair election process, that would eliminate the inherently undue influence of all partisan money sources in elections, and the associated quid pro quo acts of corruption, such as you identify under the 47th presidential administration and co-opted Republican party.

    2. For brevity of this “web post” I jump ahead to proposed simple, currently available NONPARTISAN election reform proposals, consider the 2 following models, below.

I ask that you, Prof. Galloway consider expanding your measures of effectiveness in economic boycotts, to help eliminate the inherent injustices of the election practices in the U.S. at all election levels, local up to federal.:

    a. Consider A COMPLETE or permanent “Boycott” of Corporate/Wealth undue influence on ALL elections – by nonpartisan election reforms by permissible, legal use of ONLY Public Media by candidates/parties, under moderation and operation of permanently NONPARTISAN citizen election committees, and ONLY under terms of equal access and equal Air Time/Media Time for all candidates – making ALL elections operate more like fair Law Court DELIBERATION in all Citizen Jury exercise of exclusive citizen rights as jurors AND as Voters.

Feel free to plagiarize this letter:
    Tim Cook, Chief Executive Officer
    Apple Inc.
    One Apple Park Way
    Cupertino, CA 95014

    Dear Mr. Cook,

I am deeply disappointed by Apple’s public alignment with the president and the political stance the company has taken.

I became an Apple customer in 2011 and have since built my entire digital world around your products — from my Mac Studio and MacBook Pro to my iPhone, iPad Pro, AirPods, and AirTags. I have always valued Apple for its innovation and integrity.

However, until Apple reconsiders its current political posture, I will no longer purchase your products or services. I began by canceling my iCloud storage — a small but deliberate step after spending hours removing my data. I want you to understand this decision comes from conviction, not convenience.

Many others share this concern, though few take the time to write. I am urging my friends and colleagues to voice their objections as well. There is still time for Apple to return to the values that once made it a symbol of independent thought and progress — and to stand on the right side of democracy.

    Sincerely,

Thank you so much for being such a powerful voice in this movement. I just deleted my Amazon account, refuse to go to Whole Foods (where I used to shop almost every day) and deleted my instagram account as well. I feel great but know this is only a drop in the ocean/bucket. My main concern is how can we stop AI and the horrible billionaires behind it from using up all the water in the world? I am REALLY scared and sad about this very real life threatening problem. Any thoughts? Thank you for all that you do.

  22. Chuck J says:

Cancelled Youtube Premium, had already cancelled Paramount+ and deleted twitter and facebook from my phone. Some of the other ones are a bit hard such as not using apple, but will shop at trader joes and New Leaf rather than Whole Foods for Amazon part.

  23. Steve J says:

Thank your for this creative idea. I have unsubscribed from both Apple and Prime. I will be selling my iPhone as soon as I determine the best alternative. I’ve been off FB and Insta as well as X all for over 2 years. I’m looking for other ways to punish the techbros. Ideas appreciated.

  26. Sean says:

Yo Scott! I think directionally this is a start, but it is looking at it from a limited lens for some of the biggest players and your points are disjointed. Specifically the large cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). In your hit on CNN you linked this idea of protesting end user products to a Microsoft cloud miss resulting in a stock down trend. These are not connected directly. I think a cloud provider protest provides a multiplier avenue. Example being if I don’t like how the meta and Amazon CEOs are interacting with this White House. The protest action should be deleting my WhatsApp/Instagram/facebook protesting meta and then my not using these apps makes it so meta does not use and meter charged for AWS’ cloud services.

  35. Michael Bishop says:

Professor Galloway, this is a great list, and I’m unsubscribing from as many of these services as I can.

From my reading, the three things that make this kind of boycott the most effective are:

    – Refraining from a business
    – Communicating to the business the reason for your boycott
    – Communicating to the business what they need to do for you to buy there again.

I think these last two are key to making this effective. I’d like to suggest that you add to your list a link to the feedback forms for each service and a template for a letter, so when people unsubscribe, they can easily communicate the above. I think it would be a force multiplier.

    Thank you for your consideration,

    _ michael

  36. bc s says:

Well I wish I could actually help with this boycott but for the most part I do not have any of the services you list. I do shop at Lowes and Home Depot. I’m in the process of renovating two homes I own so it is tough to find reasonable prices elsewhere although I do shop at an employee owned electrical supply business and other local businesses when I can. I have a Netflix subscription but it the only streaming service I have. Never used social media like Facebook. I refuse to use Uber. Don’t have an Amazon Prime account and buy from them as little as possible.

  41. J U says:

Unsubscribed from ChatGPT Pro (replaced with Le Chat), Microsoft subscription stopped, Amazon since 2009 but no more – cancelled. Working through the list. Since I’m outside of the US most of the year thanks Scott for giving us ideas and actions on how to resist from abroad.

  42. Kristen says:

Unsubscribed from ChatGPT, Apple Music, Amazon prime and finally deleted my Facebook account.

  43. Leigh says:

I’m keeping PBS Passport, which I suppose counts as a streaming service. I dropped Amazon Prime years ago. My local public library has tons of movie and series DVDs, in additions to books (both hardcopy, CD audio, and e-books). My beloved, non-chain hardware store just closed, so I guess I’ll start going to ACE Hardware instead of Lowe’s and Home Depot.

  44. RobynH says:

We unsubscribed from everything on the list, including Amazon. I wish we could see how many people are actually doing this. I think a lot of people hesitate because they wonder whether enough people will actually do this for it to make a real difference. I hope they do!

  45. Kash says:

Unsubscribed from ChatGPT, YouTube Premium, and stopped shopping at Lowes, Home Depot, and Amazon. Since I was on a roll, I canceled Fubo too even though it’s not on Scott’s list (it’s owned by Disney, Paramount, and Skydance).

  46. Scott Goetz says:

Cancelled Amazon Prime (cancelled just before annual renewal 🙂 and Google storage ($19.99 annually for 100 GB). I also unsubscribed to Audible, Spotify, and Chat GPT. It was so satisfying to cancel each of these subscriptions! I honestly don’t think I’ll subscribe to any of these services again.

I’m down to just YouTube Premium ($15.25 monthly), which includes YouTube Music, and NY Times (digital, $6.04 monthly). I have no TV/movie streaming services, but luckily have access to content through a friend’s Plex account (this is the way).

I am un-subscribing out of protest, but two out of my three adult children have just lost their jobs in tech. As Trump mismanages the economy, soon folks will be unsubscribing entirely because they can’t afford it.

Unsolicited messaging advice from a marcomms guy: I just heard your spot on Smerconish, after which Michael confessed to not seeing clearly the connection between impacting business outside of the blast zone and moving Trump off his mark. You touched on it in the interview with the 1930s Germany parallel, but I do think it’s worth clearly stating “our corporate leaders hold outsized influence that they have, to date, been unwilling to yield. We need to give them a reason to wield it in The People’s favor.”

    Keep up the good fight.

PS: I unsubscribed from Apple TV, Disney/Hulu/HBO, and realized I’d been paying for two Xbox game passes from when my now-grown sons were kids.

  55. Bonnie Halpern says:

Don’t forget that Jeff Bezos fired 1/3 of journalists from the “Washington Post,” an essential publication for writing about the descent of our nation into authoritarianism. I am going to cancel my subscription.

  56. Mario Alvarez says:

Hi, I have unsubscribed from Amazon Prime and ChatGPT. I canceled Disney earlier when they tried to fire Kimmel. Is there any streaming that has spoken up against what the administration is doing? I don’t have HBO, but is that one ok to subscribe?

The more I cancel the more I realize how these subscriptions are draining my accounts-rather, WERE draining my accounts. So rewarding. Boycotting Whole Foods many be the toughest….
I will continue to unsubscribe and boycott these companies way beyond February as I can’t imagine these corporation heads will speak up anytime soon.
Thanks everyone! I finally feel “unstuck.”

    • Michelle S says:

Just unsubscribed from Apple tv plus and had already unsubscribed from Amazon prime. Thank you!

  59. Joel Lawrence says:

This is brilliant. We all do what we can. I canceled Google one, Kindle Unlimited, Apple Arcade, Apple news, Amazon music, YouTube subscription, still working my way through.

  60. Diane B says:

Canceled Netflix and Amazon Prime. Canceled Disney and Paramount early because of Kimmel being canceled.

  61. Sardonic Solicitor says:

Cancelled ChatGPT, Netflix, and Apple TV!

    • Harry E says:

Proud to say cancelled Amazon Prime early last year when Bezos went full Trump and haven’t bought a thing from Amazon since. There are other places to buy what you need.

  62. Vinny says:

Cancelled Google premium, Gemini, Apple iCloud+, Apple TV, Spotify, Apple Music, Netflix, Uber, Claude, Peacock, Disney+, Amazon Audible, PlayStation Plus, Lyft, Uber Eats, Grubhub, and all other delivery/food apps ie Dominos, DQs and McDonalds. I have also stopped shopping on Amazon and removing my subscription from a lot of newsletters or paid apps. I’ve even gone as far as skipping all fast food restaurants. These companies are all complicit in what’s going on in America today with the economy, rising costs of everything, the manipulation of the stock market and the value of the dollar aka inflation, what the president is doing everywhere else, and the mass firings of tech workers in favor of AI and data centers that destroy the environment. Automation in favor of reducing healthcare costs under the guise of reducing the workforce and optimization… I took a look around and realized I don’t need any of these “services” at all. I can cook well, and I can do without subscriptions to things/media I don’t own.

  63. Dudette DOOright says:

Canceled Netflix , Hulu , Amazon Prime, HBO and already canceled Apple TV. Did not have other subscriptions since I am on a budget. However keeping Youtube premium so I have some sanity.
    Switching off AT&T Monday.

  64. Catherine Cousins-McLeod says:

I unsubscribed from Netflix, AppleTV, HBO, Paramount, Disney+, Hulu, Peacock and Amazon Prime. Deleted What’s App Not sure about Pandora? Anyone? Thank you Scott!

  65. Mike Knowles says:

Ask everyone with a 401k or IRA to sell their stocks and mutual funds and buy the money market funds for 30 days. Could move a lot of funds away from the s&p500 stocks etc

  66. Peter Selk says:

    !

  67. Ke says:

    Unsubbed Amazon prime,
    Deactivated Instagram and deleted app
    Deleting Whatsapp

    • Amy Bermar says:

I’m doing this, though I don’t subscribe to much —just prime, Facebook, instagram and giving Whole Foods more than I want. Any thoughts about posting this ourselves on Facebook and Instagram?
Thoughts about Walmart? Are they possibly good-guys now?
      Is Google clean?

  68. Rex says:

We don’t have most of the subscriptions listed but we cancelled:
    Amazon Prime
    Audible
    Netflix

    Deactivated:
Facebook (not sure if this makes the same impact as deleting our)

    Kept:
    Whatapp
    Instagram
    ChatGPT (temporarily)

  69. Michele Tokuda says:

I just canceled my YouTube Premium and looking to boycott and/or cancels other things. ICE OUT! We hate you here!!

  70. Kim says:

Already cancelled many of these a while back. Tell Amazon and Bezos to kiss-off. Go to your local library and get a FREE membership. In addition to printed books, many local libraries offer access to e-books, audio books, and streaming media through Libby and Hoopla apps.

    • Donna Sinn says:

Also many libraries have an app called Libby that allows you to checkout audiobooks
I use it for road trips and listen on my phone
It’s free and keeps my brain occupied on long road trips

  71. Jay says:

    Cancelled ChatGPT plus

  72. GST says:

    Bid adieu to 2 ChatGPTs!

  73. Rik says:

I was enjoying Prehistoric Planet & Hijack on Apple TV+
But pleased to cancel it and join this protrsry

  74. K says:

    Just cancelled Chat GPT!

  75. Sandro says:

just start with Apple TV+, and uber. too bad that Disney was already cancel last time time when they tried to take off air Kimmel.

  76. Alex says:

I just unsubscribed from Paramount+, which was easy, and Amazon – that one was hard. But not that hard!–After all, they’ve been enshittifying for years. That one is a signal to Bezos to stop kissing the ring, stop helping ICE, and commit to respecting our rights–including supporting the free press, instead of kneecapping it! (RIP WaPo).

  77. Shields says:

This requires so much negotiation with my family! I am going to unsubscribe for at least a week but I have to issue warnings and explanations first. Yikes – I had no idea we were so entangled.

  78. Garth says:

Just cancelled Amazon Prime. Will also cancel Google One as well.

  79. Rob says:

Cancelled Netflix, HBOmax and AppleTV. I don’t know if I can convince my wife to get rid of amazon prime but I’ll work on it.

  80. jta says:

    Unsubbed paramount +

  81. TOGa says:

Unsubscribed: Amazon Prime, Apple TV, NetFlix, and a few others that, as Scott experienced, I didn’t even know subscribed to. Make a difference.

  82. P and J says:

Coming back a second time this week with another cancellation- just got rid of prime today too

  83. LC says:

Cancelled ChatGPT, Hulu and Spotify. Thanks Scott

  84. Tracey Spoonemore says:

Cancelled Apple TV, Perplexity Pro, and tried to cancel streaming from spectrum/charter. (I need the internet.) Perplexity Pro requested a reason for unsubscribing and I said ‘Big tech’s complicity with evil. Resist and Unsubscribe.’ When I called spectrum to cancel tv/streaming I told the agent about you (and Kara Swisher, of course) and the ‘resist and unsubscribe’ movement (sorry if it’s not technically a movement, that’s the word that came out). That person looked up the resist and unsubscribe website. He seemed interested in learning about you. Although I finished the call NOT unsubscribing because the agent re-priced my same package for less than internet only, it felt good to connect with another human and share my concerns with a perfect stranger. I will continue unsubscribing as there are more subscriptions in my life to address. Thank you for leading this effort.

    • Thomas Sandidge says:

This is a win. No action is pure if examined deeply enough, i.e. it isn’t enough, or wrong headed, or some other excuse not to act unless it’s “perfect”. Resistance, by it’s very nature, is incremental and marginal. You may well have achieved more by engaging rather than completely opting out.

  85. Linda McFadyen says:

I did it! Bezos can spend his trillions however he chooses, I have a choice too. Thank you so much Scott.

  86. Elizabeth Sprague says:

Cancelled Amazon Prime after 10 years. My new motto- Stop streaming. Read and start living.

  87. Josh says:

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Uber One, Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube Premium, Apple Fitness+ and Xbox Game Pass all gone.

  88. Ess says:

    Canceled Prime, ChatGBT, Apple+.
    Hulu gets canceled tomorrow.
Family switched from AT&T to T-Mobile.
I wish I could cancel Comcast. No other good internet option here.

  89. Ess says:

    Canceled Prime, ChatGBT, Apple+.
    Hulu gets canceled tomorrow.
Family switched from AT&T to T-Mobile.
I wish I could cancel Comcast. No other good internet option here.

  90. Russell Gordon Williams says:

Dumped ChatGPT, Apple TV, and Prime Video. Waahoo!

  91. WH says:

Unsubscribed from Netflix, Amazon Prime, YTTV, Spotify. Encouraged several family and friends as well. Thanks Scott and team.

  92. Doug says:

Stopped ChatGPT ($600/yr), but I did start paid Claude ($200) because I respect them.
Stopped auto renews for Paramount and ApplePlus and HBOMax. Would stop auto renew on Prime, but I have to do that on a laptop as the iPhone App doesn’t have the option.
Hated Netflix dreck for years, so nothing to stop there.

  93. Leah says:

Unsubscribed from Amazon and will not spend $ at Whole Foods. ChatGPT paid subscription cancelled. I don’t shop at Walmart or Target. Working through a few more. Thanks for rallying us to take action and reduce our anxiety a wee bit.

  94. Laura, Curry says:

Unsubscribed from Amazon!!! Yay!! The reason I stated: “Because you are greedy and never learned gratitude or how to share”
    Also dumped Uber.
Love, LOVE this movement Scott!!!! Thank you for getting it going!!!!
    ❤️💪🏾

  95. Lin says:

I’m working on unsubscribing from as much as I can do and boycotting from all that I can. It’s hard to do 100% but getting as close as I can.

  96. Frances Green says:

    I agree, I will unsubscribe..

  97. Libby Loeser says:

Unsubscribed today from SiriusXM, Peacock, ChatGPT, Uber, and I’m boycotting purchases from Amazon until I start to see meaningful change. It’s the most satisfying thing I’ve done in ages. Encouraging those I know to do the same. We have the power, folks–let’s unleash it.

  98. Mosh5150 says:

Already cancelled HBO , Starz, AMC should go on Colbert nothing to lose at this point for Steven

  99. Peter Head says:

    Cancelled ChatGPT & GoogleOne subscription.

  100. MW says:

Just cancelled in Australia and encouraging family and friends to do the same

  101. Denise Strong says:

    I am a huge fan – I have unsubscribed from Apple TV+, Amazon Prime & Uber –

  102. James Wilson says:

Off HBO, not buying from AMAZON for this month.

  103. JH says:

European here… cancelled Apple TV and Music on January 31st, specifically cancelled everything Amazon today, incl. the account. While the scope of your action is domestic, these are multinationals. We already avoided X and Meta properties like the plague. Every bit helps.

  104. SK says:

Cancelled Uber, unsubscribed from ChatGPT, deleted Amazon (previously unsubscribed from Prime), and downloaded Spill Up (black-owned social media account). Limiting Instagram to one hour per week as that’s the only way I find out what’s going on but yes to breaking up META!

  105. Geordie B. says:

Just canceled our Prime membership, and as much as it pained me, I also canceled my digital subscription to The Washington Post.

  106. TPH says:

Cancelled Prime and Netflix today. This Canadian support our US friends who still have goodwill for us. Working on others, but there is more complication around it due to work.

  107. jcreelman says:

That was hard!! I gave up FB in 2016 and Instagram in 2020. I just deleted TikTok for good. Prime unsubscribed, AppleOne gone Apple music gone and AppleTV gone (sorry drops of god season 2). No more BritBox. I hope AudioBooks is not evil. Now to delete my GoodReads for good.
I left One Medical last year when Bezos bought it. Thanks Professor

  108. R Kennedy says:

Cancelled Prime, Audible, Netflix, Paramount+, Google TV, and Apple TV.

  109. Warren H. says:

Unsubscribed form Paramount+, Netflix, and Sling. Savings: $135 / month, or $1,600/year.

    • Warren H. says:

And, in doing this exercise, I learned I have Apple TV. Canceled that too for another $12.99/month saved

  110. Steven Nelson says:

Cancelled prime today. Hopefully this can make a difference.

  111. M and J says:

Thanks VERY much for stepping up to organize a targeted boycott. The “people” are waiting for the “leaders” and the leaders are waiting for the people. Finally. Action. My husband works in big tech and we’re still participating even though part of his income is in stock and we hold stock in another big tech company from previous employment. It’s important. Also- 1. I wrote a blog post encouraging others to participate and shared with my extensive email list, etc. (I’m not on social media anymore, so that’s what I’ve got.) CANCELED: 2. everything we have with Amazon- Prime & Audible. 3. Everything we have with Apple (except our actual phones, cloud storage, apps.) Apple TV & News. 4. Everything we have w/MSFT- MSFT Office 5. Paramount Plus 6. We don’t have Google subscriptions. 7. We boycott Meta anyway. 8. We only use Lyft anyway. 9.Unsubscribed from ChatGPT plus. From the Blast Zone: We’ll only ship USPS (ironically). AT&T and Comcast aren’t options with no other internet option. 10. The hardest will actually be Home Depot (and consequently Lowe’s and Amazon). Home Projects are brutal without these. My husband spent four hours going to 5 Ace Hardware stores to find a light switch dimmer on February 1st. We can do it! Thanks again. Big love to you for putting yourself out there. It means a lot.

  112. TM says:

Resist & Unsubscribe is exactly what we’ve been overlooking. Why aren’t we measuring and reporting the collective economic impact in real time?
Two ideas that could reduce friction and show impact:
    • Add a site-wide impact counter where people log what they canceled (service + optional monthly cost range). The site can display total cancellations and a conservative estimate of dollars redirected, with a shareable headline like: “So far: the Trump administration has cost {Company} an estimated ${Y}.”
    • Add service-specific “resistance kits” that include the cancel steps plus ready-to-copy feedback scripts tailored to each company’s cancellation flow (short, medium, one-liner), so people can act fast and speak with one voice.
    How can I help more?

  113. Stephen Michelman says:

To answer my own question: Click “Other” under “reason you want to unsubscribe” (if an “Other” box is available) and explain it there.

  114. Joe, Abelson says:

This has been a valuable process, not only as an impactful way to resist the abhorrent behavior of the administration and its big tech enablers, but as a catalyst for reconsidering all of our family’s subscriptions. So far, I’ve cancelled YouTube Premium and Amazon Prime, and I’m looking at ways to reduce our involvement with Apple services and AT&T. Thanks for the swift kick, Scott.

  115. Kristof says:

I’m from Europe, but really upset about the news from the US, so:
    – Cancelled Amazon prime
    – Cancelled Google workspace and moved to Proton

  116. Myles says:

    lets start something in Europe.

  117. Stephen Michelman says:

Scott, thank you for organizing this effort. The strategy makes a lot of sense. Is there a way to let the big tech CEOs know WHY we are cancelling subscriptions — that it is part of a unified effort to change the government’s immigration enforcement policies and tactics?

  118. Allard says:

I had already dumped prime, and now have unsubscribed Apple, Netflix. Stopped using x, log out of Facebook (do not have the apps!) only looking about twice a week because of groups I belong to. Using cash at local restaurants and not spending on anything extra. Thanks for leading.

  119. P and J says:

Love all your work Scott, keep it up! We just canceled paramount and peacock.

  120. Rachel van Maanen says:

Love that you are putting yourself out there like this, Scott Galloway!!

What just doesn’t jibe is the continued use of Instagram. I know you explain that you have to get the word out, but you don’t seem to have an exit strategy for Meta and you are taking people to Instagram who may otherwise not go there. You could be using your platform to promote Social Media sites that respect privacy, such as Mastodon and Signal. People need alternatives. Yes, we can go without Netflix and an Über, but how do you leave Facebook or WhatsApp when that is where all your friends and contacts are. Use your platform to promote worthy alternatives and shake the market up for the long term and not just for the time it takes for the tech titans of the world to reverse their current course. Take their power away! Competition – back to basics!
But again, thanks for putting yourself out there. It’s a real risk in the current culture and it’s inspiring!

  121. C says:

Unsubscribed Netflix and chat GPT. Ditched Amazon a while ago.

  122. Michael says:

Scott, Thank you for leading the charge and using your platform to do so! We unsubscribed from Amazon prime, Netflix, Facebook, and YouTube thus far. In addition, I’ve been sending your info to other to help this effort gain greater and greater momentum.

  123. Jesse Rankin says:

    Hi Scott,
I just unsubscribed from Amazon Prime and took their survey. I selected “other” as the reason for canceling and after writing my reasons, I added the URL for resist and unsubscribe. I wasn’t able to do the same with Apple but it could be helpful to get the message across if people reference the link. I appreciate what you do.
    Thanks, Jesse

  124. Harper says:

I didn’t know about this movement but I canceled Amazon Prime and WaPo a couple of hours ago because of how Bezos treats his employees and his cowardly complicity with trump. Happened to see Scott just now on my feed and came here. I need to go look at more on his list. Thank you, Scott!

  125. Rose says:

I ended my Netflix subscription after 13 years!! Scott can you provide names of alternative companies we should support?

  126. Andy says:

Thanks for what you are doing here Scott leading from the front with your special brand of self deprecating humor and truth. I unsubscribed from Paramount plus and YouTubeTV

  127. Barry says:

    Unsubscribed.

  128. Douglas says:

How do we integrate with no kings….we need 30m Americans to boycott tech bros…

  129. Steve says:

Thanks for using your platform for this, Scott. Cancelled Amazon Prime and Netflix 6 mos. ago. Channeled my inner Chuck Schumer and sent Tim Cook a strongly worded letter last week. Won’t buy Apple until they get on the right side of this fight. Left Schwab (Trumper) for Fidelity. Haven’t used Uber since their fares passed yellow cabs.

    • Harry E says:

Proud to say cancelled Amazon Prime early last year when Bezos went full Trump and haven’t bought a thing from Amazon since. There are other places to buy what you need.

  130. Douglas says:

So we have two weeks to put max pressure on DHS through funding…,agreed it must go beyond the protests…I have personally cancelled $200 per month of subscriptions…:

How do we ramp of max pressure in the next 2 weeks…,you have the reach and the message..:.push on or ramp up….i am with you…100%

Also divested my stocks in google, Amazon.,,,open to more aggressive action

You are the tip of the spear..let’s do more and better…

  131. Garrett says:

Well said Scott. Shot Amazon Prime. Congrats on reaching the most cynical generation (Gen X) so keep up the fight.

  132. Laura says:

Just unsubscribed from Amazon Prime, Uber, and Apple TV. Thank you so much for taking the lead on this. And, you look great and it was money well spent. 😉

  133. Nina says:

Unsubscribed from Amazon Groceries, Uber One, ChatGPT Plus, and my Amazon Subscribe and Saves. Thank you Scott!

  134. David says:

Scott the list of Tramps biggest buddys so I can drop one in protest! its great idea, thanks

  135. Chuck says:

WaPo and Prime TV are gone now. Keeping HBO.

  136. Nancy says:

Just cancelled Amazon Prime. I cancelled Netflix about 6 months ago.

    • Nancy says:

I want to add that I have unsubscribed from Apple News+! Keep it up everyone!!!

  137. Jono says:

Just cancelled Amazon Prime and Netflix!

  138. Marc Broncucia says:

Out of weapon and Amazon prime. Thanks Scott for your inspiration
    Best,
    M

  139. KL says:

Sharing this all over! My cousin, a CFO with a prestigious company, suggested your podcast as an additional resource to effect a financial sting to the oligarchy. Inspired!

    • Lynne Splinter says:

Dropped Apple music, Paramount, Netflix and I will drop prime as soon as I figure out who to get my supplements from. Wish there was another phone service that was like Apple, but not Apple.

  140. Marina says:

Totally on board with this initiative – thank you! Cancelled GPT (they offered a free month after tge fact), and Youtube Premium. Looking to add Apple to the list and said goodbye to Disney Plus when Jimmy Kimmel was “suspended”.

But I don’t know what to do with my Mastermind annual subscription (admittedly missed cancelling it before the deadline). Low and behold I see Tony Robbins at the Melania screening the day Alex Pretti was murdered in Minneapolis. I know T Robbins has provided coaching (or whatever you want to call it) to Trump, but showing up at this gross, bribery event?! Not entirely surprising I guess, but yuck. Do I send Mastermind an email in Contact Us? I want my disgust noted.

  141. Get Lippi says:

Fully supporting this from the UK. I’m taking it a step further than a one-month strike: I’m permanently migrating my entire digital life to a Sovereign EU/Swiss stack.
    For example:
    Outlook → Proton (Encrypted mail/calendar/drive)
    Big Tech Search → Mojeek/Qwant
    Facebook → Mastodon (The Fediverse)
Chrome → Vivaldi (no more tracking, thank you).
It’s liberating to realize that we aren’t just consumers; we are digital citizens. The best way to ‘Resist’ is to build your own ‘Greenland’ where these companies have no jurisdiction over your data. #DigitalSovereignty #ResistAndUnsubscribe”

Scott Galloway is right that “the most radical act in a capitalist society isn’t marching, it’s not spending”. Posting the comment validates your hard work and shows the world that a “MAG7-free life” isn’t just a protest, it’s an upgrade.

  142. Susan Ray says:

Just added Amazon Prime to Hulu, Netflix, AppleTV already canceled. Wonderfully clearing to the mind.

  143. Y, Naraine says:

    Done! Let’s gooooooo!

  144. Alex McKay says:

I like this idea but wondering about subscriptions in Canada. Will cancelling my subscription through Apple Canada, Amazon Canada, or Netflix Canada still have the direct impact upon their US owners?

  145. Ernesto Bredee says:

Serious question: if everyone “opts out” of Meta, how exactly is this movement supposed to reach anyone?

  146. Susan B says:

I love this idea. I’m wondering if it would be good to organize and focus the cancellations monthly? Like in March everyone is quitting YouTube Premium. April is Netflix, May is Microsoft. Targeted cancellation campaigns that even give the company time to respond and correct action before the major subscription dump comes. After the Disney protest, I think they will believe it. I’m willing to participate but I need to see that it will actually do something and know others are involved as well. Some people might be willing to do larger subscription dumps along the way and others might just do it for a month. But it gives an on-ramp for action which I think is needed to get people involved.

  147. Haley says:

I will absolutely participate in this. Can you make a sign up sheet? I’d like to commit and see how many others are committed.

  148. Colin Toal says:

Wouldn’t the biggest unsubscribe be for a lot of us to get out of passive investing in index funds, and to park our money in bonds or something ? There’s $13T in Index funds just propping up despots on the promise that they will let us share some part of their spoils. Maybe we should stop being sheep like liquidity for these folks ?

  149. Rebecca Ramsey says:

I just canceled Audible. Told friends and they are doing the same. This is a great idea and I hope it catches on.

  150. Rob says:

    #GoogleGone #AmazonGone

  151. Jeannie Richardson says:

Hi from Perth, Australia. I love that I can participate from here. I’ve cancelled Paramount, Prime video, Netflix and Google Gemini 🙂

  152. Justin Stone says:

    ChatGPT, Amazon Prime, AppleTV+, Uber

  153. Mark S says:

Cancelled Amazon Prime and Apple.leys do this

  154. LauraBelga says:

Cancelled ChatGPT, KindleUnlimited and paused Amazon Prime. For now. I wish you had called it Cease & Resist (but understand why you went with Unsubscribe).

  155. Arlene Walsh says:

Canceled our Apple One account which is going to hurt. Have no idea how I’m going to listen to music now. Anyone have a Discman I can borrow?

  156. CJ Malestic says:

Canceled AMZN and ChatGPT. I left social media a while ago
My message to OpenAI: “Effective Feb. 1, I canceled my Plus subscription following Scott Galloway’s “Resist and Unsubscribe” movement. It’s a message to CEOs showing acceptance of and complicity toward the current administration, its policies, and the threat to the rule of law. As difficult as it is — and it is really hard to do without many technologies and services I use daily, such as ChatGPT Plus — I’m willing to forgo them to get companies’ attention. Despite the personal inconvenience to me and my family, it’s worthwhile; our republic is in peril.
OpenAI has got it wrong showing feckless allegiance to these guys.”

  157. ToniG says:

Cancelled Amazon, Facebook, Google, Instagram – never had Twitter/X, Snapchat, TikTok etc, or streaming services so all good. Also use duck duck go and private VPN. Solidarity from Australia

  158. Samantha says:

Cancelled Amazon over the weekend. Cancelled Uber yesterday. Just cancelled Paramount Plus. Let’s do this.

  159. K says:

There are alternatives to Instagram. Mastodon, diaspora, pixelfed, matrix, peertube, and bluesky

  160. Wes says:

Amazon Prime. Apple One. Peace out.

  161. Frosty says:

    Mr. Galloway,

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jenice Armstrong (jenicearmstronginquirer on threads) has also called for a very similar boycott. I saw her column first and I’ve cancelled twelve subscription services as a result. I wrote letters (snail mail!) to most of the top Execs of those companies–I think that is important too.

  162. Margaux says:

    Dear Mr. Galloway,

I heard that you or someone you knew was trying to create an alternative to Amazon. I would like to know more about this if you have the time. Perhaps you could provide a link. Please take your time. I really support this.

  163. Margaux says:

    Dear Mr. Galloway,

I heard that you or someone you knew was trying to create an alternative to Amazon. I would like to know more about this if you have the time. Perhaps you could provide a link. Please take your time. I really support this. I’m hoping to find an alternative to Amazon Prime and Amazon Music. We’re thinking of Netflix to replace Prime and Deezer to replace Amazon Music. I hope that’s good.

  164. p.von says:

you need to inform people to get out of US index funds; the inflation and market is going to erode people’s retirement money from both sides. we all know Europe is already outperforming.

also you’re hoping for a movement against a sick few, but America’s sickness isn’t in leadership, its cultural and popular.

    • Erika says:

I agree with this. People might not realize how deeply they’re invested in tech and such in their retirement funds, especially if they’re invested in target date mutual funds. I’ve rebalanced my retirement to heavily favor ex-U.S. indexes and they’re performing pretty well. Semi-related: I would love to hear people talk more about U.S. treasuries/bonds. Put aside that I don’t want to fund my own oppression. The government pays interest on its debt in dollars. That way, it can ensure its debts are always paid, even if it doesn’t collect enough in revenue (taxes). That is, it can pay its debts by printing more money. And right now, we’re in a low-tax environment for those who have the most to contribute—billionaires—and simultaneously staring down the barrel of an enormous debt crisis. I’m no expert, but that seems like a recipe for economic disaster. If anyone here is an expert, talk me down!!!

  165. Michelle So says:

    Apple TV
    Audible
    Paramount Plus
    Chat GPT
    Disney
    Apple Familly
Also will restrict # of purchases on Amazon.

  166. Jin Kwan says:

The virtue signaling in these comments is off the charts.

A useful reminder that half of America is dumber than the median.

  167. Marie says:

Deleted my Amazon account after 2024 election. Unsubscribed from AppleOne today.

  168. Karl Hungus says:

Sold all of my Microsoft, Amazon, and Google stock (combined total ~$200K) and cancelled my Office 365 subscription. Will be trying LibreOffice as a free, open source alternative. Stopped using Google for search years ago. Now I need to cancel Prime and kick the Amazon habit.

  169. Ximena Lopez says:

On it! Will share. Thank you!

  170. TW says:

Canceled audible facebook Instagram messenger spotify

I was going to subscribe to Netflix, I can wait, not this month.

  173. April says:

Cancelled my prime membership which had recently auto renewed. Got a full refund. No longer shop at Whole Foods. Got rid of Uber. Audible and Netflix are next.

  174. Kyle says:

Just unscribed to OpenA, X, Parmount +….Let’s keep the momentum going

  175. Shannon says:

I unsubscribed from everything except YouTube and Adobe for work. I feel like I am making bank not handing my hard earned dollars over for shit I don’t need. I put my free time into myself and family and my extra money towards the ACLU and our local library that’s been fighting book banners for over a year.

  176. Allison says:

    Just canceled Prime and Audible!

  177. Dylan says:

Just cancelled Netflix and Hulu. Next, changing my W-4 (W-2 withholding) to $0. Why give them any $ early? Thx Prof G!

I had a broken MacBook, so I went out and bought a new one. When I heard about your idea to spend less money buying Apple products. . I took the new Mac back to the store and I fixed the old Mac and I’m good to go for several years. I also didn’t have Apple fix my computer. I had a local business fix it and they did a great job. It’s repulsive that Tim Cook went to that disgusting movie about Melania.

  179. Anna says:

GREAT music service as an alternative to Apple, Spotify, Amazon is Tidal – I’m a big music person and it’s never let me down.

  181. mark gardner says:

We have cancelled our Netflix account but the billing cycle is paid through Feb 25th. I suspect this will be the case for many people wanting to participate. Perhaps a three month boycott would work for many folks without creating hardship for families. Honestly it is an opportunity as I saw you observe on your pod with Kara Swisher to purge and evaluate how we “over consume” on too many platforms. Hopefully Netflix “gets the message” Peace Brother G

  182. John Clark says:

    Audible and Amazon Music, gone.

  183. AJ says:

Cancelled Hulu, Amazon, Uber, Disney+, and Netflix. Keeping Peacock for the Olympics, but getting rid of it asap. No longer shopping at Whole Foods either. Haven’t shopped at Target for the past 25 days, and it feels liberating. If there’s a list of small online businesses that we can support, please list them. If you need books- Bookshop.org

  184. Gaby says:

Even if you can’t stop using these services, you can reduce your use or find ways to cut their profits. I’m a student. I don’t rent my internet modem/router from spectrum, I only use social media on my laptop that has Adblock, I get audiobooks and movies online from my university/local library, and I buy all of the things most people buy on Amazon from thrift stores, estate sales, and Facebook marketplace.

  185. John G says:

First, Paramount, then Netflix. More when I have time.

  186. Jessica Holloway says:

Amazon cancelled. Youtube TV cancelled. Reduced apple subscriptions. Unsubscribed from Audible.

I’m Canadian, so have done this already…. I have unsubscribed from Netflix, Amazon, Disney Plus, Paramount, ALL social media platforms (better for it!), and have boycotted USA products and travel (sorry to small businesses and citizens who did not vote for this administration, but Canada is not playin).

  190. Joanne Campbell says:

I am in Canada and I have unsubscribed to almost everything I can to help. I was wondering where I can go to see how the plan is working out, how many subscriptions are down, if it is having an effect. Since I have unsubscribed to most things I no longer have facebook or Instagram. Do you have a website to follow the resistance and its progress. Thank You

  193. Abigail Hunter says:

Am I going blind or are Tesla, Grok and Starlink/SpaceX missing from the list? I don’t get it. Biggest single political backer of the mess we’re in and likely will continue to be. What did I miss?

  194. Mary Ann Sheehy says:

    Unsubscribed from AmazonPrime today🥳
Pro Tip: I tried to unsubscribe & get a refund on the phone yesterday and when I told the customer service man my reasons were “political” the refund was denied.
Today I went in to Amazon.com and used the chat box and said, “ I don’t need it anymore” as my reason to cancel and got a full immediate cancellation and a refund.
    Next=Apple👍🙏🥳

  195. Jacob says:

Cancelled: Xfinity internet (pending switch to fios), paramount plus, netflix, amazon prime, disney plus, openai, google one, google home (ditching gmail permanently, privacy concerns have a very different meaning when I no longer can trust the system).

  196. Twana says:

It is worth a try. Cancelled Paramount when Ellison bought it.
Have cancelled Amazon Prime, Netflix, and even Hulu just for solidarity.
No longer use Google….switched to Duck Duck Go last week.

-I cancelled Kennedy Centre after name change
-Today our family cancelled AmazonPrime, Apple+, Oura, LinkedIn Premium and Spotify
-I had to keep Netflix to avoid divorce; and, I need Microsoft and Whatsapp for work, but I’d cancel those if I could

Like your program. I have at least 6 more suggestions. A big one is restricting data access to FB Goog and MS. I am tied into these platforms commercially, but I can reduce their access and meta data. Your phone is a big spy and money maker for the Uber platforms. Lots of YT videos on how to manage these issues.
Mindset is a big issue, before making changes, accept that your comfort and convenience will be impacted.
Carbon footprint improvement also cuts into the regime, fossil fuels are at the root of profits and power. Converting to another energy format is a paradigm that works against the Superorganism.

  208. RNG says:

Thank you Scott. I’m a Cuban-American and I am disgusted and embarrassed on the actions of many of my people. They are spineless pigs. I’ve cancelled Amazon, Uber, Hulu. I cut the cord on Netflix, Facebook, Paramount long time ago. I’ll be cutting off WhatAsap in a day or two.

    • SwimmHappy says:

Yes I canceled my WhatsUp as well. its owned by Meta/fb. I deleted all the chats, downloaded all the photos to my phone. Then I deleted the account, they ask for your phone number, so they can confirm i guess its not a mistake, After deleting my Account with them, I deleted the App from my phone. I have had Viber longer then WhatsUp on my phone, and i am only staying with Viber which is not Usa owned. Viber is great.
Glad you mentioned it and Scott should add WhatsUp on the list with other companies to be taken out.

Thank you. I’ve been trying to figure out how we do a general strike. This is fantastic. I’ll be back with my unsubscribe list.

  211. Angie says:

Cancelled Prime, Amazon Music, Netflix, and Paramount+. I don’t have AI subscriptions. I love this plan and even though I don’t have a wide circle, I have shared it with as many people as I can think of (who are not MAGA).

  212. Teas says:

    Done! Bye bye Paramount +

  213. elyse gura says:

I’m a member of the “marching generation” — and proud of what we achieved — Roe v Wade, Brown vs Board of Eduction, Civil Rights act, Voting rights act .. and so much more. I am horrified to see our achievements erased by the oval office occupier. However .. I am skeptical about this “monthlong national economic strike, a coordinated campaign that targets tech and AI companies and inflicts maximum damage with minimum impact on consumers” strategy. I am concerned that consumers will, in fact suffer a major impact – on their portfolios. So many of us have tech and AI companies in our retirement accounts and/or other investment accounts. I agree with protest.. I would hope there is some other way to target those companies.

  214. Jess says:

    Just cancelled GPT!

  215. GFC says:

Would it not be more effective to advocate not buying a single product for a week or month? Apple ipods? Oreo’s? Maybe a different product each time? It seems a decline of .01% or some number like that by each person choosing a product or service does not send a clear message.
Smart idea though, it should be thought of as our vote – we Americans do not take actual voting too seriously, witness the number of eligible voters who vote, but we all buy stuff.

  216. Julianne says:

Listened to PIVOT this morning and was persuaded this is an effective plan. I have since deactivated Facebook, Instagram, cancelled Netflix and Washington Post.

  217. Peter Dredge says:

As soon as Scott mentioned this last week (on Pivot I think), I cancelled both my streaming services: Amazon Prime and AppleTV+. I only have one LLM which has become vital in an ongoing fight with a health insurer and an irreplaceable business tool so will stay. I’m so pissed with the US tech sector for their abetting of Trump that it’s odds-on I’ll stay unsubscribed.

  218. Theresa says:

After reading you’re a suggestion of unsubscribing, I find nothing that would tank our economy. It would be an inconvenience to us personally and while I wish it did not have to be done, I think it is a good place to start. I appreciate your information and the idea. I have today unsubscribed from Apple and will continue working my way through our remaining subscriptions. This inconvenience has no comparison to the folks that are suffering right here in America from the current administrations policies.

  219. Sheila Donovan says:

I am concerned that the economic strike could backfire. Republicans constantly assert that they are better stewards of the economy than democrats. I fear that any negative impact on the economy driven by a democratic economic strike gives them a scapegoat to focus on instead of their terrible economic policies. We need to focus the midterms, bring in more independents and reasonable republicans. Does this get us there?

    • AD says:

  220. Scott says:

Deactivated my Facebook, unscribed from Disney/ESPN/Hulu.

  221. Cliff Perkins says:

I just cancelled prime video. Also chatted with them at length explaining why.

    • Lynn says:

This is excellent. Just unsuscribed from Netflix. Made sure to add reason to protest ugly trump regime

  222. A says:

Tank the economy? The best thing we have in this country? The thing all of our retirement and investment accounts are built on? No thanks. You’ve already opted out of the US by choosing to live in London, for the 300mm of us that still live here I don’t appreciate you telling us to tank our economy. You’re a brilliant guy and I appreciate your honest approach. But you’re also financially insulated from real world issues. We need a strong economy here because we don’t have the social safety net of other places. For someone that got rich AF here and then bounced, let those still here enjoy a rising tide of stock prices.

  223. Bob S says:

Just unsubbed from Amazon Prime and AppleNews+. An earlier comment mentioned some hassle with cancelling Amazon Prime. I got a friendly human very quickly and a full refund, no questions asked.

  224. UnknownUser says:

ChatGPT canceled, switching from AT&T next, Amazon I’m coming for you too.

  225. HM Llewellyn says:

California just dropped DROP (Delete, Request and Opt-Out Platform), empowering Californians to compel data brokers (including Alphabet, Meta, X, etc.) to delete their personal data from their databases. There are 44 million Californians. DROP’s main focus is privacy, but it’s going to have an economic effect on data brokers too. What about including a special section to your campaign for Californians, plugging DROP as a way of economically communicating with Tech?

  226. Jovi S says:

    Cancelled/stopped using the following;

    Amazon Prime
    ChatGPT
    Nike

Overall, I’ve been making the decision to be more conscience on which companies I support, even before learning about this movement. A lot of these corporate companies have been so disappointing.

Postponed a planned Apple Watch purchase.

    • SwimmHappy says:

I am not very sure either why cancel the Netflix. Tried to go back to videos to figure it out.. but still i am not clear. Would like to hear more as to reason why.

New left, same as old right

Going to go thru all of my subscriptions this week and leave negative reviews on every app store I have access to. Spreading to my social circle as well.

  231. Brad says:

Prime, ChatGPT, Disney subs canceled. Pausing Amazon/Apple purchases

  232. Cindy Powers says:

    Unsubscribed to the following:
Netflix, Hulu, Disney, ESPN+, Microsoft Office, Amazon Prime and all Amazon Products (completed in Jan 2025), cancelled Amazon Prime credit card, unsubscribed from Peter Attia after Epstein file release, stopped shopping at Home Depot, using Marriott Chase card less and less.
YouTube TV will be a family decision and Apple products (without all the other cloud services).

  233. Vani Desai Poet says:

I unpublished my book! As a writer beginning my journey I took help with self publishing platform KDP even when I don’t shop on Amazon. I started Instagram to start my socialmedia presence for the book to connect to readers and future publishing. I don’t use Facebook or X I don’t use AI. As a former techie for brief two years in my after -graduation days, I switched to humanities and for humanity! I am an Etsy crafty artisanal woman! I usually try to vote with my wallet and look for sustainable options. Food clothing lifestyle, I don’t drive, I don’t like to use Uber I never use credit cards. Not enough! Unpublishing my poetry is a next big step towards true growth and peace. I shall go full Indie!

  234. Gschwendtner says:

Thanks for your pointing out the importance of unsubscribing. Cancelled all my Amazon accounts, diminished drastically my apple subscriptions, cancelled Disney+ and LinkedIn premium.

  235. Joseph says:

    Hi Scott,
I had an idea that came to me from a conversation I had last week. What would your thoughts be on encouraging people to use all of their corporate and big tech gift cards this month?

    Hear me out on this,

Someone explained to me that Starbucks doesn’t have to rely on banks that much for investment capital because of both gift cards and automatic top ups in their app. Both of these methods of giving Starbucks money are basically akin to the consumer giving them an interest free loan that they may or may not even cash in. There are known statistics on what percentage of gift cards will never be used. This represents money the big companies just get from the consumer for nothing.

Well what if everyone made a concerted effort to use up their gift cards in February? In essence it would allow for some consumer behaviours to continue while also impacting the balance sheets of these big companies.

I have Home Depot gift cards with as much as $50 on them. Home Depot already has the money. If I use those gift cards before a full boycott, I can have a bigger impact than if I boycott but just let them have that money.

I feel like the same could be said for any UberEats gift cards. Get your money from them before you unsubscribe???

Just a thought. I’m no economist, so maybe there’s a reason why this wouldn’t be a good idea, but wanted to share the idea.

    • Jefe says:

Cancelled Prime, Chat GPT, and YouTube TV. Spotify Premium is next.
Expanding subs to indie journalists and NPR.

  236. Jordan Moody says:

Cancelled Paramount +, Disney, Apple TV, Peacock, Chat GPT

  237. Theresa says:

Absolutely love this. I’ve deleted Uber, cancelled Xfinity, and am doing a no spend at Target, Whole Foods, and Amazon (my convenience go to’s) for the foreseeable future. Scaling way back on credit card usage and supporting more small businesses in my community for groceries and any other needs.

  238. sam says:

Thank you for aggregating this information, it is both compelling and revolting. Our household cancelled our Netflix account and will make purchases exclusively at Menards or local businesses for all sundry of household repair projects moving forward. Immediately following the 2024 election I cancelled my FB, insta, X accounts. We have been proudly unsubscribed from Amazon since 2013. Of note, our kids were not particularly moved by the cancellation of Netflix when I reminded them that we can always check out movies and “vintage” series from our local library. At our casa, retro tech has become de rigeur. take good care.

    • DZ says:

I see some saying they “will use other companies instead of this company”, make sure you thoroughly vet the other as I noticed a few that are thoroughly supporters of this administration.

  239. Kim O'Leary says:

Good bye to Apple tv, Disney, Hulu, Peacock, Amazon Prime, Chat GPT, Target,. It feels great!

  240. Carl Johnson says:

Have stopped using my Chase/Amazon credit card, will be using cash and cash card for at least the next month ( for starters)

  241. R says:

Would a run on the banks be quicker and more effective? “Ice out or Cash out.” If everyone that went to a protest last week withdrew their savings would that get the market’s attention?

    • Lisa Seibert says:

Not really. The stock market trades daily and this administration pulls back when it stumbles. Also a mass exodus of savings accounts could hurt small businesses if the banks close lines of credit they use for payroll and purchasing.

  242. Cary Bean says:

I fully support your idea of a targeted economic strike aimed at the sycophantic, cowardly, and greedy leaders of many of our largest enterprises. I hope there is great support for this effort and rather than one month, stays in place until we see real changes in behavior. I understand they have a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders/stakeholders but their voluntary genuflecting is unnecessary and abhorrent. Today, I have therefore cancelled my subscriptions to Prime, Apple TV, Facebook, Instagram, and Chat GPT (Disney remains cancelled due to their last spineless response.

  243. Charles Bowie says:

Have so far got rid of:
    Amazon
    Netflix
    ChatGPT
    Spotify

I think what will happen is that these companies will try and bluff it out the next month as I noticed when I cancel many of the subscriptions don’t run out till mid or end February so results wont really manifest until March. More power to you and this campaign. Peace

  244. Ross says:

Scott & Team, thank you for organizing this. I implore you to get the word out via all mediums possible (other podcasts, TV appearances, reaching out to influencers across all socials, etc.). I believe Resist & Unsubscribe uniquely has the potential to go viral and force the administration to dump some of their terrible policies.

    Here’s what I cut:

    – Unsubscribed from ChatGPT Pro
    – Unsubscribed from Microsoft Office
    – Deactivated Facebook
    – Deactivated Meta

    1. Leaving Facebook for a month
    2. Giving up Prime membership and no Amazon orders for February
    3. Gave up Apple Music and Apple News for February

Shamed Zuck, Bezos and said I was especially surprised about Tim Cook.

    Posted the hashtags…

Thx for the suggestion, I know it’s not the answer, but somewhat helpful.

  249. Richard Greenwall says:

Thank you Professor Galloway for giving us a platform and an opportunity to push back against the injustices taking place.
-Got rid of Amazon Prime, Apple tv, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount + and placing a moratorium on any non-essential purchases in the future. Kept HBO/Max..

  250. Amy McDevitt says:

Scott, thanks for coordinating! Deleted Facebook! Cancelled Netflix, HBO, Paramount, Spotify, Utube Premium, and Audible. Boycotting Amazon and eBay (this will be the hardest for me) for month of February. Looking for more…..

  251. Melissa Roocroft says:

  254. Elliot says:

Bye bye… Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Netflix

  255. Teresa Prieto-Fingerhut says:

Will try to do this. And will forward to others.

  256. David says:

I stopped my Washington Post subscription when Bezos stopped the endorsement of Kamala Harris. I have not purchased anything from Amazon since then as well. Neil Young has gifted his music catalog to the people of Greenland. We can make an overall positive difference without hurting the working class as well if we think about the side effects of our purchases.

  257. Marty Gillis says:

I have never had an Instagram account and thought getting one to communicate about this would be rather ironic. So I’m reporting this way. I have been spreading the word and have unsubscribed widely, including brands you didn’t include but who are complicit, like NYTimes (Bezos), Wayze, and Perplexity (Bezos). 100% support this and am dismayed, now that deleting is done, to feel FOMO and a bit naked! Thanks for organizing this.

  258. Jeanne Fromm says:

Thanks for organizing this! Just dropped Apple TV+ and Netflix as a memorial to Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

  259. David Connolly says:

    Thanks Scott.

In Australia hoping we can make a difference.

Love the US. Hopefully this gets resolved soon.

Cancelled Open AI for business and started with Le Chat from France. Can you recommend any decent European LLMs Scott?

  260. Shana says:

This retort perfectly summarizes what so many people feel, including myself to the revocation of rights that is occurring in Minneapolis. Thank you Scott for organizing this and giving myself a certain sense of power and control in this uncertain time. I am unsubscribing from Amazon prime. I am also unsubscribing from apple digital services a small $3.22 monthly fee that largely went unnoticed by myself due to its smallness in nature.
    Thank you.

  265. Worried in Denver says:

ProfG. I have about $1M invested in the companies listed on your Resist and Unsibscribe … both Unsubscribe and Blast companies, plus unfortunately, Tesla! Similar to “green” portfolios or other similar limitations on investments, would it be helpful to have my advisor/broker sell these positions (and replace with other positions to keep the portfolio balanced)? If this was done en masse would this be another avenue of resistance / punishment? Or, is this just too little to have an effect?

  266. Patti says:

Got rid of OpenAI, Apple Music, Apple cloud storage, and Audible.

  267. Sonja says:

    I’m in!

  268. SCM says:

Amazon Acct Deleted, FB deleted (sure don’t make it easy), WhatsApp deleted, AppleTV gone, Netflix and HBO next.

Here is a streaming idea – I downloaded the PBS app on my TV to watch the Ken Burns American Revolution series and was re-introduced to all the amazing programs they have. I became a passport member for $10 a month and now have access to everything – American Experience has tons of great episodes btw – so now I have quality streaming option and support PBS.

  269. Catherine says:

Thanks to the Prof G Media team! You’ve got my support. I’ve added ‘Resist and Unsubscribe’ as my reason for canceling these platforms.

  270. Cara Presseau says:

I used kagi (paid search) instead of google for a number of reasons, thoughts on that?

Got rid of Open AI, Apple News, TV and Music. Saved $47 bucks! Screw Trump!

  272. C Cook says:

Don Lemon was recorded helping to plan the church invasion. The lie that he was ‘reporting’ came out, but after the ‘outrage’ response blanked the media

‘Outrage’ by the left was instant to the two deaths, yet follow-on videos question the sanity and motives of those killed. And, the machine that set it all up.

Save the ‘outrage’. It is Kabuki Theater and unbecoming of those who think today’s journalism is honest. The purpose is to sell Cat Treat and Subaru ads. Integrity left the building years ago,

CNN and NY Times are poster children for the fall of Journalism.

  273. Burton says:

Take a picture with your phone and make it your profile and background picture on Facebook page….😊👍

  274. Pierre says:

Living without streaming can be tough. However, it is less painful if you rotate services. Add software (I use PlayonCloud / PlayonHome) to record the shows you want from that subscription, then cancel. Playon has an ad auto skip as an added feature. You can replay on any device including TVs in your home. I never have more than one subscription, and only for a month.Ine downside is current event related programs get stale if you wait for entire season to drop.

  275. Chris L says:

    Thank you for doing this!!
    I cancelled Apple TV+ TODAY!
    Amazon Prime is next!

  276. Pierre says:

WRT Amazon, first step is cancelling Amazon credit card, which is the default autopay. The bank is synchrony, which seems to provide same service for other big trump donar companies like Lowe’s and Home Depot.

  277. LaurenB says:

Just cancelled Amazon prime, audible and YouTube TV, Hulu and Open AI – While doing this found out other streaming charges I didn’t know I was paying for! Thank you for all you do.

  278. Dr. D says:

Canceled LinkedIn, Microsoft Office, Prime, Audible, ChatGPT, Claude, AppleTV, Paramount, Disney+, Netflix, Uber. Used Resist and Unsubscribe website for “reason for cancellation” whenever available.

  279. Tanner says:

    You got my support!

  280. Concerned Citizen says:

Scott, thank you for standing up. That takes guts. This is the right side of history.

  281. John D says:

Scott – First of All THANK YOU – This is Huge!! We’ve dumped Amazon, Apple News, Google Ads, Uber, Hulu. Open AI – Please all make sure to pass this to all of your influence centers and influencers

  282. Elliot Galdy says:

Help!!! When I try to paste the R&U url onto Facebook, it doesn’t seem to allow it. Is anyone else having this problem?

  283. Madison says:

Cancelled Amazon Prime and decided not to purchase a new Mac – thank you for doing this!

  284. Alice says:

Thanks, Scott – so glad you’ve taken this on. Time to cut some cords.

    • Grishma Rajput says:

Joning this movement from Canada – cancelled my Amazon Prime & Claude Subscription, deleted Facebook & Instagram. No amazon orders for next little while, resisting all discretionary spend on ANY american giant. Go everyone! 🎉

Thank you Scott for the suggestion! Would love a way to upload screenshots on your website.

  285. Laura Osorio says:

Hello Scott, thank you for suggesting this. I just cancelled Netflix, ChatGPT and Amazon Prime. Not only we are making our voices heard, but we also saving money!

  286. James A says:

Surprised the Washington Post was not on the list, thats a more direct consumer link to Bezos.

  287. L. Garcia says:

Thank you so much for putting this together. I unsubscribed from Apple Music and Netflix. I’m happy to say that the only other service I use on your list is Microsoft Office. It’s gonna take me a couple days to figure out if I can unsubscribe from it.

  288. Jeremy McBride says:

Why target only Chatgpt and Claude? What about the other AI companies. As someone not familiar with your work, this seems like favoritism. Potentially a way of taking advantage of the sentiment to help/harm selective companies.

  289. Concerned Citizen says:

Thank you Scott. I will cancel as many as I can. I cancelled Audible today. When asked why I was cancelling, I wrote: “Resist and unsuscribe.”

  290. Rex says:

Hello Scott, Have you and Kara asked all your media buddies like Anderson Cooper, Jon Stewart and many others to help promote this initiative?

  291. RG says:

Unsubscribed from Amazon prime, Netflix and apple TV

  292. Lynnski says:

Thanks Scott, i like that you offer many ways to resist with no pressure to do any more than we can. We have unsubscribed from cable tv with comcast, (no streaming services, just internet), cancelled Audible, disabled social media and are boycotting Home Depot, Lowes and Amazon for the month of February.

  293. Les says:

Thank you for another no mercy no malice. My wife and I are all in. Just cancelled Apple, prime Video, paramount, netflix. I am sending this podcast and unsubscribe info to everyone I know. Have you contacted indivisible.com, the group that organizes the big no kings marches. They can be a big help.

  294. Staten says:

Love this, I canceled my Amazon Prime account.

  295. Richard Fraser says:

Just unsubscribed from Apple One after having it for almost four years. Planning to update some devices soon and will think about how to extricate myself from all these USA-based platforms.

  296. butt monkey says:

Would be really cool and persuasive if someone came up with a way to correlate dollars resisted and votes. Ex: Musk spent 250 million to influence X voters, so cancelling a subscription would prevent him from influencing a small amount of those voters… Is cancelling a subscription equivalent to a vote?

  297. Sceptic says:

I’m surprised no mention of Palantir here who is providing the tools to identify and target specific demographic of immigrants and making billions of dollars from taxpayers money

    • Flix says:

There is nothing to boycott at palantir when they don’t sell their services to private customers. Why the surprise?
I agree what they do is evil and antidemocratic, but it makes sense to focus the message on actionable change.

  298. Em Vee says:

The Pitch: A Longitudinal Accountability Project

To counter the administration’s “flood-the-zone” strategy, we need a structural shift in how we track questionable actions. Current journalism is often held hostage by clicks and ad revenue; I propose a model based on dedicated, non-profit “micro-beats.”

    The Model
We hire researchers or journalists to follow one specific thread of the administration’s actions for its entire duration. This isn’t about breaking news; it’s a desk job. They clock in, research their specific niche, and produce a report every two weeks—regardless of “virality.”

    Funding
Benevolence of millionaires or one millionaire. Plus this could be a non-profit entity funded by patriotic donors and patrons. It’s a “zero-ROI” investment in the truth.

    Examples of Focused Beats:
Economic Grift: Tracking crypto-schemes, merchandising, and “pay-to-play” appearances.
ICE Oversight: Monitoring facility conditions, detention lists, and deportation flows.
While mainstream media covers the “big” stories, the sheer volume of transgressions means many fall through the cracks. We need a permanent, granular record of every logical conclusion to ensure nothing is buried by the next news cycle.

  299. hans acha-orbea says:

I dumped everything from TV to tech companies.I dumped also most of my subscriptions. We have also to refuse to pay for increased use of AI. they invest so heavily, they will try to charge us. As a Swiss, I can live without a car, do my shopping by bike and live energy-independenly using solar panels and batteries. I isolated my house. no more electricity and heating bills! no more TV. I still use my iphone until it dies… No more facebook, Instagram, X, tictoc etc. I save a lot of money and have a beautiful life and do not miss any of it!!!

  300. Jonathan Sargent says:

Dumped Amazon Prime and boycotted Whole Foods and canceled Washington Post in November of 2024 after Jeff Bozo went all in on Trump. Home Depot is gone, Target is gone, Uber is done, Publix is done ( major Trump donor ). Netflix is next. Giant Apple user, so dumping would be nearly impossible, but will delay any purchases for certain. So incredibly disappointed in Tim Cook. He can’t resign fast enough.

  301. Tony says:

Thank you for platforming this Scott. I have thankfully been shutting down my access to a lot of these services you have mentioned way before this current administration came into office. It is because of you and Jonathan Haidt that I removed myself from social media sites that were rotting my brain with so much unecessary slop and toxic chatter/culture.

My wife and I were able to remove subscriptions from Uber One & Audible, and I deleted my ChatGPT account. We also decided that we are going to to our local Hobby Lobby & Ace Hardware for our home hardware needs instead of Home Depot or Lowes. Lastly, we’re now looking to cancel our Residence Inn stay for my buddy’s wedding in upstate New York and stay at a local Airbnb instead.

I hope you’ll be able to expand upon the list. Thank you again for everything you do in attempting to make our society a better one for future generations.

    • Anya says:

Better take another look at Hobby Lobby & Airbnb. Both insidious companies whose founders/executives support the regime.

  304. Glen says:

“Resist and unsubscribe” feels like Galloway is trying to carve out one small, graspable lever of agency in a situation that’s structurally bonkers.
In fact, Galloway’s “resist and unsubscribe” is structurally a refusal in exactly Maurizio Lazzarato’s sense in last chapter of Governing by Debt (2013).
Refusal was the only option remaining, in Lazzarato’s view.

  305. Patrice says:

Podcasts are great at getting us thinking and these days feeling angry and frustrated. Finally, something concrete, fact-based, and easy to access that we can DO! I am not an avid user of most of these platforms, but did delete my Facebook account. I heard about this yesterday morning, and today spoke directly with 10 people about it. I’m a big believer in the exponential effect. Just getting started. Thank you so much for using your platform to help us combine forces and show big tech that we are watching, reacting and expecting them to do their part.

  306. Todd says:

I’ve dumped Apple & Netflix. It is REALLY difficult to drop Amazon Prime if you are on a yearly subscription. You can easily deactivate the yearly “resubscribe”, but nearly impossible to halt your present subscription and get a refund for the remaining year. To make this plan work, that is what you have to do. I think I succeeded this morning, but it cost me a few hours of my life. When I finally got to a human (I think) and was asked why cancelling, I said: “Bezos support of Trump and the Melania doc. Also poor treatment of Amazon employees”. They gave me a COMPLETE refund whereas I was hoping for a pro-rated one (I will check the cc in a few days). I have a screen-grab of this that I will share on Reddit and here, if could figure out how. If you can break through to a human on Amazon, be polite and empathetic.

Scott – Why does Pivot still advertise for/take money from Dell given Dell is on your unsubscribe list?

  309. Zilla Parker says:

Thank you, give me hope that we can save America.

  310. Suja says:

Yes! I’ve been doing this since November 5, 2024. I’m so glad someone with a platform is promoting this. The only subs I still had where Audible and ChatGPT Plus which are both canceled now. Thank you Scott! The consumer based economy is where people have the most power. Let’s use it.

  311. Angelica Klages says:

Thank you for all your hard work, and giving us practical ideas of what we can do right now. My sister and i just cancelled Amazon Prime, Audible, Netflix and looking to see what else we can cut out.

  312. Natalia Fernandez says:

Just cancelled Apple TV, Amazon prime, Amazon, Facebook and Netflix. Thank you Scott for being the source of hope.

  313. Rachelle says:

  316. Elena says:

  317. AJ says:

Only thing I’m unsubscribing is this blog. Bye bye Prof G, have enjoyed your ramblings but I’m out.

  320. Scott Sacks says:

If we’re afraid to shake the tree a bit, how will we ever get the ripe fruits of equity? Sure, a little disruption might seem reckless, but isn’t it better than just letting the status quo keep us in a tailspin?

Sometimes you have to light a fire to see what’s really worth saving. Let’s stir the pot—after all, a little chaos can be the mother of progress!

S/O: Proff G (+the team behind him – Ed and Kara Swisher, et al)

  321. B K says:

I love this strategy. I noticed only one issue. Spotify has already decided to not renew the contract for ICE recruitment ads. It happened because they were already feeling the economic pressure from boycott strategy. You may want to re-think leaving them on your list.

  322. Charlie says:

Thank you for this. Can you follow up with a plan for crypto? The majority of Trump’s monumental grift is buit on an incredibly shaky foundation. Let’s focus on pulling the rug out from his memecoin, etc – THAT will get his attention, and it harms no one except other grifters and Trump suckers.

  323. Nash says:

Would love if you included a section in Resist & Unsubscribe that suggests where to spend money instead.

For instance, I’m in Minneapolis and am unsubscribing from what you’ve listed and will instead subscribe to the Star Tribune, The Atlantic, double/triple my existing NPR/PBS membership amounts, etc.

  324. Mary says:

Added Netflix to my Amazon Prime and Apple News cancellations. Plan to scale down my Comcast Services. The idea of targeted economic strikes is great. Have you considered rolling targeted campaigns? Charles Schwab, Penzzoil and Estée Lauder are among many corporations who have publicly supported Trump’s policies. The owners and leadership teams at these companies need to be held accountable.

  325. Bobby says:

Just Downloaded all of my ChatGPT data, then CANCELLED….I’ll live. Next up: the tough conversation with the kids about which streaming service they get to keep….They’ll live. As for Amazon, my cart might grow, but “submit order” will remain unclicked.

  326. Kellie, Bourque says:

Hello, Could you say more about why Netflix is on your list? I plan on cancelling but some friends asked me and I haven’t found answers online. Is it simply because they have outsized influence as you state at one point, or is that influence specifically negative? Also, anything to do with ICE? Thank you very much for doing this.

  327. Dr. Cicin-Sain says:

Just cancelled my Amazon Music unlimited and my Audible. I can do well with Spotify instead. I’ll post it on my Facebook later today. Pity that I have no Musk subscriptions to cancel.

  328. Kendall Ewing says:

Thank you Scott, i had a lot to cancel – but very satisfying.

  329. Andrew S Klug // ASK says:

I’ve long respected you as a serious thinker on political economy — from the broken social contract of higher education, to a tax system that systematically favors the old and asset-rich at the expense of the young, to your work on male disaffection. Which is why this piece is so disappointing.

I’ve already struggled with your stance on minimum wage, given that mainstream economic evidence consistently shows higher minimum wages reduce hiring and do little for the workers they’re meant to help. But this proposal is worse.

You’re now advocating an intentional contraction of consumer spending to damage the U.S. economy as a form of political punishment. We already lost the election — that failure can’t be undone by lighting GDP on fire after the fact. Cutting off our nose to spite our face isn’t resistance; it’s self-harm dressed up as strategy.

Targeting America’s largest tech companies to crater valuations, retirement accounts, and downstream employment is not “low impact on consumers” — it’s a blunt-force recession lever. And forgive the skepticism, but when a market commentator urges coordinated demand destruction in specific equities, it’s hard not to wonder who’s hedged or short.

This isn’t courage. It’s economic nihilism. If the argument is that democracy is fragile, deliberately weakening the economic foundations that support it seems like a spectacularly bad idea.

  330. Suzanne says:

I am a retiree, so I don’t have many subscriptions, but I did just cancel my Amazon Prime! It felt amazingly satisfying! Thanks so much, Scott, for taking the lead on this initiative that gives those of us who wouldn’t otherwise know what to do, a path to contribute to the resistance!

  331. Kathy says:

Unsubscribed my Audible account. Thanks Scott for taking action!

  332. Brett Fadem says:

Unsubscribed from HBO Max, Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu and some others.

  333. Mark says:

    SCOTT!!!!!
Cancelled Netflix, Apple iCloud, Amazon Prime. NOTICE ME!!!!

  334. dan says:

Good article with some compelling points, as usual. However Scott once again you fail to mention the complete set of facts: that Renee Good parked her car in the middle of the street to obstruct legitimate law enforcement activities, then her wife exited the vehicle unprovoked and stuck her finger in the face of a federal law enforcement officer while daring him to do something about it. Same story with Alex Pretti: he walked up to a law enforcement vehicle and began kicking it. These two people do nothing, and I mean NOTHING, to advance their cause with such behavior. They are just as inflammatory, obnoxious, and disrespectful as Trump. Of course, it is more convenient for you and other liberals to not mention the full story, it makes it easier to demonize your enemy, but trust me there are still millions of people that see what you’re doing when you omit such critical details.

    • truth says:

None of the allegations you describe, dan, warrant a death sentence.

    • Mike says:

Do these action, even if your facts are correct, rise to the level of the death penalty, or in this case a public execution without a trial? Regarding your facts, please be aware that Alex Pretti kicked at the bumper in a previous encounter almost two weeks before he was executed.

    • CC says:

Dan, you are a moron. Two people were murdered and their devastated familes are left to pick up the pieces.

  335. Tyler C says:

Thank you for this and I’ve already participated, but I have a follow up thought/question. It seems to me like one other untapped way to organize an economic protest like this would be to act directly in the markets. I for one would be happy to divest from big tech in my 401k, but only if I knew I was part of a unified action to send a message. Do you think organizing around that kind of principle would have any merit? The potential to lose a few percentage gains in the short term seems like a very small price to pay if it actually worked.

  336. Bob Reselman says:

    Thank you!

  337. Adriana says:

Unsubscribed from Audible and Apple Music in the name of #AlexPretti as that was a bridge too far. Peace out. ✊

  338. kelly keenan says:

It is not a question of todays business leader growing spines. Are they any different than the German business titans who in February 1933 promised to support Hitler if he would crush workers? Trump promises them lower taxes and more profits, few if any capitalists ever cared how profits would be increased as long as they got theirs.

  339. Liza says:

Just unsubscribed from Apple News, Apple TV, Netflix,
More to follow including Amazon Prime, HBO &/or Paramount Plus (keeping one streaming platform for others in familng TBD). Thank you for an organized list with links.

  340. Dave says:

Unsubscribed from all that I easily could. Thankfully, I wasn’t subscribed to many services.

  343. BW says:

Professor, much appreciate your wanting to do something to put some brakes on the regime. Since tech (AI) is driving the market, a pull back will have far reaching consequences for ordinary Americans. Yes, it will get Trumps attention at a price. Your thinking to redirect the administration is a good think.., we need better ideas that will get the desired attention with minimal consequences to ordinary Americans. Let’s keep thinking!

    • Kris says:

I’m unsubscribing from ChatGPT February 1 and whatever else I remember I use. And I’ll spread the word!

  344. C says:

Thank you so much for doing this—I’ve been waiting for some thoughtful leadership for an economic protest. I canceled Apple TV and Audible and deleted ChatGPT and Uber apps. Getting family pushback on Netflix, Spotify, and Prime but will keep working on it.

      • Mark says:

Encourage them to pressure their competitors and peers and not fold when shit goes south.

  347. Craig Gjerdingen says:

Single greatest immediate response we can do that. Will get an effect, and will be considered quite muscular, would be to boycott watching the super bowl. If you could get a nationwide boycott or even a worldwide boycott of watching the super bowl, it would hurt them more than anything else could in one day; Even one 4-hour block.

  348. Sanjay says:

This is emotionally compelling but tactically weak. If people rely on these services to live or run their businesses, they won’t cancel what they see as core infrastructure. The smarter move isn’t abstinence, it’s substitution. Replace critical services with equivalent or better alternatives that sit outside US political pressure (e.g. privacy-first, non-US providers like Proton in Switzerland). Economic pressure works when dependency shifts, not when people are asked to self-sabotage.

  349. Zach says:

Done. Amazon’s a tough one, but a freeze on spending and cancellation of subscription based orders will be a bonus to our house none the less. Good work Scott and team, appreciate the obvious solution and easy messaging. Values are aligned.

  350. Teebs says:

Prime is an annual fee, does it matter if mine isn’t up for renewal until April? Also, for the apps that re-up mid-month, does it matter if you stream until the fee is due, or is it more (or also) about lack of activity on whatever app?

    • Bob says:

Usually when you “unsubscribe” your subscription continues till renewal lapses. It is the act of unsubscribing that matters as that goes towards their expected future earnings.
You can still buy from them,it just takes an extra day or two. We have been delighted with Ebay. Their customer resolution process is great (if yu should have one).

  352. Joannie Mil says:

It’s a great start and a good way to resist. From what I’ve seen, however, Hilton Hotels have been more cooperative with ICE officials than Marriott. Can you speak to that?

  353. D Hunter says:

Can we post some alternative options for purchases (buy direct?), music/movies (bust out the DVD player?), etc. Happy to participate in this, just lacking bandwidth to figure it all out.

    • Teebs says:

      Local libraries!

    • Bob says:

I do research on Amazon then buy on Ebay, Walmart, Best buy etc. In your browser, enter the product and use the “shopping” tab. There are numerous smaller sites that will offer competitive deals. Many of the products are available directly with the manufacturer. They like to avoid the Amazon “skim” and offer a fair price direct.

  354. Laurie Giandomenico says:

    Done and Done

  360. Charles says:

Sure Scott! We’ll be right on that! Because the Preti death, while unfortunate, was preventable and of his own making. He was verified as an advanced man agitator, on film instigating confrontations with federal law enforcement officers while carrying a loaded gun, on more than one occasion. Maybe you can have a flash sale on your next podcast to monetize our protest? You are a poseur, a fraud, and most sadly, an opportunist. Maybe it’s time to flee to the desert for another Ketamine weekend to clarify your thoughts. In the meantime, start your faux protest by either offering your services for free, or de-platforming your money grub, to whit:

      • Charles says:

Sorry Lisa, that pointing out the rank hypocrisy of Galloway, and the sheer absurdity of Preti’s misfortune doesn’t help you cope with your feelz. But tell you what, I’ll set up a Crash course offering my solutions for premium subscribers only, 10 sessions in one day, for a mere $2500, Paypal. In the meantime, skipping a binge session of “curb Your Enthusiasm” reruns on NFLX are sure to “solve” the angst of virtue signalers everywhere. • Hmmm says:

@charles, a rich person speaking up about the atrocious behavior of other rich people may be a bit hypocritical, I’ll give you that. But it’s a whole heck of alot more admirable than what most of the top 10% do, which is to file the working class and poor (same thing now) as a lower class of lifeform. Don’t hate Scott for gettin his nut. Since follwing, I haven’t been charged a dime to aquire any of the knowledge Scott gives, its always been a gift and not a grift.

“Stop buying things and unsubscribe. Life is so rich. Use the code NOMALICE for 15% off your first month’s subscription to zBiotics.” Which is it Scott? We’re supposed to stop buying things but you can’t pause the sponsored content on the newsletter?

  363. L says:

To all the trolls commenting here: no one here cares about your ignorant views. Anyone that has read a history or economics or psychology book understands Scott is right. If anyone has any understanding or respect for the Constitution, rule of law, or veterans who died fighting to uphold the Constitution knows Scott is right.

  364. L says:

We need 3 concrete demands to lift the boycott. What are tgose 3 things? I think Congress must 1) create bipartisan committees to decide all future non-emergency military actions, 2) ICE must be prohibited from wearing masks and muat wear official decals and nametags with their real last names, and 3) all ICE activities are approves by an even bipartisan committee with all injuries and deaths causes by ICE inveatigates by a 3rd party nonpartisan already existing professional and reputable company selected randomly from a pool of companies.

    • L says:

I am cancelling or avoiding using all Tech platforms in February. I will use apps Goods Unite Us and Open Secrets to boycott all Trump supporter businesses for the next 3 years if not permanently.

  365. JT Chapel says:

    Cancelled Apple Music.

  366. Celia says:

Cancelled You Tube TV, Apple News this morning. Holding off on that new iPhone. Hi Tech Guys from rural Indiana.

  367. Mike, Walsh says:

  368. Brad says:

I have unsubbed from Netflix and Apple Music – writing in “resist and unsubscribe – Prof G”

    Hope it helps!

  369. M Wright says:

    Freeze out ICE.

  370. ronin says:

chatgpt and amazon gone. need to rationalise gmail account and migrate and they will be gone with youtube gone as well. Insta n twitter on its way no loss. looking to remove facebook

    • Jessie says:

Go to proton.me if you need to move from gmail. Proton is encrypted end to end email, calendar, drive, VPN, AI. They have instructions on how to transfer email and photos from google. You can get the email free or pay for parts of the suite. I have used them for 10 years. They are located in Switzerland. I unsubscribed Amazon, Audible, appleTV, ChatGPT, Hulu. Happy to put that money to keep paying Proton.

  371. John says:

    Cancelled chat gpt, amazon, Spotify.

  372. BobInSeattle says:

Canceled ChatGPT sub; also, will make no prime purchases in all of February probably many other. Never gonna buy anything by Apple ever again.

    • Cath Stent says:

Hello from Australia. Goodbye Amazon, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube ( unfortunately as a Gmail etc user, I can’t delete them all). I would encourage people to provide feedback when you leave. My feedback was, I don’t want to keep funding the organisations that support the Trump administration and thanks for the idea Scott Galloway 😉

  373. Krugler says:

Just canceled Amazon Prime along with Apple TV and ChatGPT—
    Thanks for doing this, Scott.

  374. Rob Edward says:

Just cancelled Apple One, Audible and looking for others, that’s 1k per year saved already.

  375. Channagiri Jagadish says:

I am glad that someone who is considered a public intellectual has taken a bold stance and it is much appreciated. Please continue on this path and also be bold enough to critique Israel and its apartheid policies against Palestinians.

  376. Constance Willard Godin says:

I’ve decided I can live without Amazon. This also effects/affects, still never know, Fed Ex whom I already hated, my poor union UPS laying off people. Also shop local as the saying goes.

  377. P says:

Let’s not forget Spotify, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target – and all cable TV. What else?

  378. BC Cornish says:

    Thank you.

  379. KShaw says:

Just cancelled our Amazon prime after 12 years. They didn’t make it easy. But you CAN get a prorated refund after threatening with state attorney general complaint and disputing the credit card charge. They ended up seeing it my way! Now on to more cancellations!

    • DGraber says:

How do you get in touch with Amazon? I’m having a hard time. I want a prorated refund as well. I have 111 days left before my renewal. Cancelled today. Not ordering from Amazon, nor shopping at Whole Foods. Thanks

  380. Nick says:

    I’m unsubscribing from you.
Looking for objective insight, not partisan activism.
    Goodbye…

    • Nick says:

Where in his entire column does Scott mention party? This is not a matter of party; it’s a matter of principle.

  381. Richard Welch says:

It is interesting to note that as of this morning the Jimmy Pattinson group, a multi media and grocery corporation based in British Columbia Canada has cancelled their plans to sell a 7 million dollar warehouse facility in Virginia to ICE. The purpose of the massive facility was to detain and process those captured. Once disclosed a boycott ensued by British Columbians to stop shopping at their Grocery Stores and within 2 days they withdrew from selling the property. Your idea has merit and will swiftly move the needle. Thank you so much for launching this campaign.

  382. Mike Lowe says:

Great idea, Scott! I’m boycotting all of your sponsors and spreading the message. And definitely picking up some Apple stock on the dip. But agree with you on OpenAI and Sam Altman, shorting that fraud all the way down.

  383. Kevin Harkness says:

Love the idea Scott. I’ve never left a comment on any video or article you’ve written, but I’ve been listening to you for a while and this is great. I’m joining you.

I will say though that I don’t use social media at all, so I won’t really be posting my cancellations. Perhaps we can all include “resist and unsubscribe” as the reason for cancellation in the prompt that dumps into some AI summarizer these companies might occasionally glance at? I’m planning on listing a few other grievances when I cancel, but perhaps you could put some suggested cancellations messages on your site tailored to the companies you mention?

Anyway, looking forward to pouring a little gas onto this dumpster fire.

  384. God Bless the US Military says:

Don Lemon is not a journalist. (Who does Don Lemon take money and orders from?)
Alex Pretti and Renee Good were paid rioters. (How much were they being paid to stalk & assault ICE agents? Who was paying them?)
Tim Walz is a CCP asset.
40-60 million illegal aliens, 10M of whom are super violent criminals, vs 22,000 ICE agents spread across the country.
How can 22K ICE agents possibly round up 10M?
You know the military is going to get (overtly) involved at a certain point, right?
Remember that the military has sonic weapons.

What is the penalty for being an Enemy Combatant?

    God Bless the US Military

  385. Louise O'Brien says:

    Great job Scott.
The group I sing with were going to compete in an event in the US later this year and now we are not going. We can see what a dangerous fascist state Trump is turning the US into.

Never thought I would see what is happening to America in my lifetime. People in US ally countries are devastated by what is happening to one of our own. It’s like a well respected loveable relative has turned into a drug addicted mafia boss.

My feeling is that Trump will make sure that the polling stations where he lost in 2020 will all have new staff personally chosen by him for the midterms and 2028. New jobs for the proud boys no doubt.
I just hope America can claw its way back from this before the US is destroyed.

  386. Michael Zappas says:

Brilliant. I have been to 8 demonstrations and am always looking for a way to make a difference. This is it. I will sell my offending stocks today. it has been surprizing to me that he market hasn’t rewlly been affected by all these lawless, spineless, pardoning, putrid changes to our wonderful Country. I live in a small town. There is a demonstration going right now. It is young people for a change. I have lived here for 35 years and never saw a demonstration until recently. Keep up the pressure from your bully pulpit Scott.

  387. Sandra says:

I’ve been waiting to hear this, ie stopping the money flow. What can us Canadians do up here?

    • Jose Cruz says:

      What can Canadians do?
Begin constructing the US refugee policy because we are approaching some dark times here in the US.

  388. Evan says:

Thanks for doing this. I just cancelled all my Amazon subscriptions and Apple TV.

  389. Mary says:

Thank you for organizing this. Happily canceled my Amazon Prime and Apple News subscriptions. Never joined Meta/Facebook, never will and will never own or buy a Tesla. Enthusiastically forwarded your site to family and friends. Hopefully this will be one BIG BEAUTIFUL BLOW to the CEOs who support Trump or sit silently by.

  390. Jose says:

  391. K says:

I am all in on the economic boycott. But
    someone got resistandunsubscribe.com
labeled as malicious and rendered inoperable @ProfGalloway. But I’m using this post and going one by one and canceling so many of them that I have meant to for the last year.

  392. Jeff says:

No. Boycotts don’t work. So much unintended side effects. Mid terms are coming up. To effectuate change- vote.

Stop the culture wars (woke BS), reverse discrimination (DEI), and the identity politics. Lead with solutions and positivity.

    Mobilize the grassroots.

Stop the divisiveness and class warfare.

Stop blaming the top 20% that pay most of the personal federal income taxes.

Reduce government corruption, bloat and wastefulness. Lower spending as governments are vastly more inefficient than the private sector.

Trump is winning because the Democratic Party is a mess and the extremists appear to represent the party. When provided the two ugly choices many just choose Trump. Elections are binary after all.

One lesson Trump is reteaching the world is that might makes right- as primitive/ ugly as that is. The richest countriest have the strongest economies and the best military and can coerce their allies and enemies. Not a good look and it’s worse to be on the receiving end. Hamstring our capitalist economy and we can join Europe in the age of embarrassment.

    • Mike Lowe says:

      100% on point.

    • John CE says:

It is interesting to me that you mention boycotts don’t work – plenty of historical attestations that they do – and they describe at length a list of far more vague and unlikely scenarios. You don’t think a targeted and intensive temporary boycott will work…but you think we’ll be able to “stop divisiveness and class warfare”?

  393. Mike Farkas says:

Sorry Scott but you’ve just jumped the shark. You’re sharp, we know it, but your posts like this do you and all your wise mentors who believed in your a disservice. I’m sorry but if anyone comes marching into my Church Service, the way those “demonstrators” did, breaking the law, as they did, they merit prosecution, whether they are ‘journalists’ or not. How you can’t see that is something you should ponder before trying to start an economic food fight that will hurt everyone.

  394. Bert Doornmalen says:

the problem is not ICE, the underlying problem is the USA constitution, what the USA needs is an overhaul of the US constitution, the abolition of the separate Federal versus State verus Municipality versus local sheriff frontier mentality, we’re no longer in the mid 1700’s and middle 1800’s, were in 2026 going 2050, so you look forward. Better education and understanding of USA in the world order and ranking in historical context. And to know, evry dog has his day in the sunshine, quite simple really.

  395. Ted says:

Scott you’ve become a radicalized leftist with TDS … Minnesota is a microcosm, not a petri dish … Sanctuary cities are anti american and are proliferating lawlessness, crime and communist agendas

  396. Jo Ann Heale says:

Canadian here but definitely want to learn about how to hurt the tech bros that helped elect Trump.

  397. K says:

Thank you Scott, I’ve been seeing more Americans start to get behind this idea. A mass “unsubscribe movement” has the potential to become the most important and possibly most effective movement in American history. We need something like that to effectivley organize a massive, national general strike someday. Voices like yours encouraging this issue is so important. Thank you

    • Dave from Scottsdale says:

Finally, some momentum behind an economic strike targeting corporations which enable Trump! Power of the purse!! Spread the word.

  398. Jamey Austin says:

While I vehemently oppose Trump and am outraged (among other descriptors) by ICE, I also work at a tech company committed to AI advancements. As disgusted as I was by the kiss-the-ring behavior of said CEOs (although not mine), I find myself in a Sophie’s Choice-like dilemma regarding your proposed action. Bite the hand that feeds me (and my family) to get Trump to finally stop screwing everyone over? Dark days indeed.

  399. Jack Spain says:

Thank you Scott for providing us with a Guiding Light! I will be initiating my Unsubscribe updates this weekend.

  400. Misbah says:

Americans will put capitalism first not principles. The days of black Americans boycotting bus companies are long gone.

  401. CS says:

Thanks for doing this- hope to help from Europe, we despise what they are doing.

  402. stan konwiser says:

Journalists are supposed to be reporting on the news, not making it. Lemon crossed that line. His long history of partisanship predicts his actions as no surprise.

    • Mike Lowe says:

Lemon broke Federal Law by intentionally disrupting and interfering with congregants’ First Amendment right to free exercise of religion. The far left, and unfortunately more and more Scott, keep selectively ignoring Federal laws and basic morality and calling for physical and economical violence. How can any American not want illegal criminals arrested and deported and the Minnesota (and other states) fraud investigated?

  403. Bill Ghere says:

Please create some traffic metrics on your site so we can watch. I’ve been working on this for the past few weeks. Downloading my Google One files now and looking to try Mint mobile for a while. Interested in any specific banks I use to shift away from Chase and Schwab. Any thoughts on fidelity? Ok or pull away from them as well.

    • Bay Area Native says:

Good asymmetric thinking. This is America after all. You have more power with your pocketbook than your ballot.

  404. Bill Kombol says:

The American public won’t stop consuming to save the planet. What makes you think they’ll stop consuming to protest another episode of “too much government?”

    • LM says:

While this is not the only solution- it’s a good one IF enough people will do this. Hope so.

  405. KJ says:

This is the first thing I’ve been excited about and feels so good instead of feeling so sick. I’m in!

  406. RONALD SHERWIN WEINER says:

Thank you for a tactical strategy that can cause more change than hoping GOP will get a backbone. I will forward this to all my friends

  407. DAVIDBF says:

When I was growing up, we were taught that in the Soviet Union people have no freedom of any kind.
The Committee for State Security, abbreviated in Russian as the KGB watches everyone.
If you show any resistance or disagreement with the Government, you could be beaten, put in jail, or even murdered.
KGB agents arrested protesters and they were never seen again.
What is happening on the streets of America today?
Kristi Noem is an inept liar.
In the Soviet system Kristi Noem would be “apparatchik “(political appointee of the Soviet government apparatus).
We should demand a top to bottom reorganization of ICE including the firing of the current malicious leadership.

  408. Paul Soo says:

What a silly post. Journalists aren’t above the law. If Lemon is guilty of a crime, he’ll be convicted. If not, he won’t. And ICE is not “executing civilians in the streets.” In both the Pretti and Goode cases, officers reacted to perceived threats – a woman spinning her wheels while pointed directly at the man (watch the video, carefully) and an armed man fighting 3 or 4 officers trying to subdue him. I think both shooters overreacted, but that’s very different from “executing civilians in the streets.”

In fact language like this, alongside the Lt Governor exhorting Minnesotans to “put their bodies on the line” and the Governor comparing these incidents to the Holocaust, is incendiary and irresponsible. How many of you (rightly) chastised Trump for his own rhetoric, exhorting him to turn the heat down? Add to that a very organized effort to disrupt ICE operations, dox officers, track license plates (frequently in error) and you’ve created a toxic environment where 2 people have now died.

There’s a reason we haven’t had these scenes in other cities, which have quietly cooperated handing over criminal aliens at the jailhouse door, instead of forcing ICE to apprehend them in the streets amid hostile crowds. Sounds like Tom Homan is having some success today encouraging local officials to do the same. That’s the actual answer, unless you care more about political points than real public safety.

  409. Rob says:

    #AmazonGone

    cheers Scott

  410. JOC says:

    A truly terrible idea.

  411. Kylie says:

Defund Spotify and other corporations backing Trump’s totalitarian agenda. I’ve cancelled my paid Spotify subscription + am boycotting the platform effective immediately. Corporate CEOs and the billionaire elite sitting on so‑called “fuck you money” while refusing to stand up to authoritarianism are actively enabling it. If you have that level of wealth and still won’t speak out against Trump’s agenda, you’re not neutral — you’re complicit. (Thanks @profgalloway)

  412. Derek Wallis says:

Immigration laws are not immoral. Deliberately undermining your nation’s economy when many people are already struggling might be.

  413. Thomas Doherty says:

The banks should withdraw from being primary dealers, I spent a career trading RMBS and CMBS at Lehman, JPM, Bear, JPM and Wells. If Jamie Dimon, David Solomon, Ted Pick, or Brian Moynahan and any of the other withdrew as primary dealers, it would have a huge impact.

As James Carville said “I want to come back as the bond market. You can intimidate everyone”. Life is so rich, but it’s feeling less so now.

    Tom Doherty

  414. Rob (from UK) says:

    #resistandunsubscribe #RAU #AmazonGONE #AppleGone
We need a meme ! and a cartoon video of resist and unsubscribe (Southpark please ! ) or Spitting Image – A Coldwarsteve meme would be good. I hope these people are on your contacts list
    Cheers ProfG

  415. Kevin Folta says:

The other residue of this is that some of us have been sitting on dollars waiting for a bubble to break. Seeing over-inflated stock prices lose some valuation could be a nice entry point for investors.

  416. Tes says:

Just cancelled my Netflix! Let’s keep the momentum

  417. Maureen Oviatt says:

This is genius and such a gift, thank you Scott! Clicking into the February Freeze as I type.

  418. Joe says:

    Dudes! Great idea!!

But just a note … the first thing I saw was the box to… wait for it … “subscribe’ …. Wtf?!

I know the intent … but it looks terrible

  419. Command says:

Tired old thinking. In honor of the Catholic Lent season, instead of giving something up, do something positive. For 40days and nights, instead of confronting the heavy handed immigration enforcement, donate a ten dollar bill to an organization that is set up solely to retire the nation debt. Professor Galloway can provide the necessary infrastructure, at no charge, to make sure the money goes directly to that cause. Make sure all the social media is ramp up and ready to go! Make collecting money, ie; blowing a whistle and filling a green kettle is on every street corner and rallies that look like a sports event. Encourage immigration agents to donate as they roam the streets and document all with cell phones. Daily reports on slowing down the defect click…think more creatively to get more attention.

  420. Larry says:

    I’m in. Thanks Scott!

  421. Linda says:

The government does not own these companies; we do through our hard earned dollars invested in stocks, 529 plans for our children’s education, and retirement plans.

  422. Phil Letowt says:

Tim Cook has destroyed his soul. What shame. Wouldn’t be perfect if the board hastened his retirement. Following your plea for action and canceling subscriptions with services aligned the Trump cult.

  423. George Mitchell says:

I canceled three subscriptions today! I don’t plan on any purchases over $500 for the month of February. Scott, thank you for trying to unify us on a specific action. Keep up the good work.

  424. Roger Brownlie says:

This just hurts America. Just vote. Get out and vote.

  425. Susan says:

“Then document your decisions on Instagram — we’d target this platform, too, but we need some way to spread the message nationwide.” Zuckerberg is one of the slimiest Trump sycophants. Giving Meta a pass is unconscionable. You need to amend your recommended boycott to include them and find another way to get the word out.

  426. david avrick says:

You’ve lost your mind. Everyone’s 401Ks and pension funds are invested “in the market” When the market goes down their wealth goes down. How can you possibly believe that “individuals” are not directly tied to the market.

This is the stupidest concept I’ve ever heard about.

  427. Eagle says:

Oh i will unsubscibe, alright: from all contact with you and yours. Illegal immigrant need to be expelled

  428. Nancy Toth says:

Thank you. Ignore the trolls. I urge you to promulgate this as widely as you can. Team with local groups to get this message out. Consumers are a very atomized group, but a unified action by the citizenry, with consequent loss to SHAREHOLDERS may turn this around.

  429. aleax stormfoot says:

Love this. if you want to focus the energy, check out cancelfriday.com — same mission, but one target per week, everyone cancels on friday together. concentrated pressure, people united.

  430. Seth says:

Scott, AI is to Work as Adderol is to ADHD. It’s a drug. As much as I agree with you that the markets seem to be the only thing that Trump responds to, asking us to stop paying for subscription to a drug that helps us work better is a lot harder than asking us to stop buying anything from Amazon this month.

The other thing that Trump reacts to is vanity. When we’ve been able to turn the mirror onto the atrocities that his administration are committing – using social media and technology to tell the truth before they can change the story…that has also had an effect.

  431. Mourad Rahmanov says:

I was wondering when you’d invite a systemic instability on America amidst a geopoli turmoil. You are all over the f’in place; do you even know who you are anymore? ICE, excluding its actions in Minnesota, is a federal organization charged with enforcing rule of law by removing those individuals who were never supposed to be here in the first place. If you are so “enraged” by its actions why dont you come up with a solution for effectively enforcing country’s law and in the case of unlawful immigration it poses a national security risk of its own, without you adding fuel to the fire.

  432. Tom Smallhorn says:

Prof G, have you ever sold stocks due to ethical or moral concerns like those you’ve outlined here?

    • Mike Lowe says:

Nah. This is performative morality from having too much money and becoming more and more out of touch.

  433. Barbara says:

It seems like a good . I have wondered why we haven’t had a united boycott against companies that advertise on Fox “news”

  434. Diane Hallett says:

Thank you for providing tangible action items!

  435. P Carlson says:

    Right On!

  436. Thomas S says:

Now, we’re supposed to get on board because White people were killed. Where was the outrage when Black people were murdered by police and ICE? Miss me on that.

    • Mike Lowe says:

Even the blacks are now vocalizing what a scam Black Lives Matter was – you’re so behind. Obama gave Tom Homan a medal for record ICE deportations (400k+ per year under Obama, and never exceeding 350k under Trump), and not a peep from any democrats. You lefties are such hypocrites.

      • Joe UzzoLina says:

We have subscribed bought your books watched all your lectures and posts followed your prediction lost hundreds of thousands on your stock record eg restore hardware -71 percent. Anyway I am taking your Advice UNSUBSCRIBING TO YOU AS YOU HAVE GONE COMMIE NUTS GOOD BYE Passing THIS ON TO ALL.

  437. Arielle Ford says:

Thanks Scott… I asked my ChatGPT, I call her Sassy, to write me the reason I am unsubscribing and here’s is what she wrote: ” I’m canceling my paid subscription as part of a broader personal decision to align my spending with my values. At this time, I’m choosing to reduce support for companies and platforms that I feel are not sufficiently pushing back against policies and practices I see as harmful, particularly around immigration enforcement.
I appreciate the product and may return in the future, but for now I’m redirecting my spending in alignment with my civic and ethical concerns. Thank you for the service you’ve provided.”

  438. Jenny Purcell says:

Done! And look at me, reading a book!

  439. David says:

Thanks for this suggestion Scott! I’ve forwarded it to all my contacts as well.

  440. Kevin says:

    Scott,

You are a worthless POS leftist extremist living in London that just likes to stir the pot. Enjoy your tea and crumpets and stay out of U.S affairs.

    • Jenny Purcell says:

Hey…go get some therapy. Hug a puppy. Eat some chocolate. Some of us find a lot of value in listening to Scott. You seem to live a miserable life and for that I have empathy. But cool it with the personal attacks.

      • AD West says:

I Paused my Amazon Prime subscription (because annual premium was already paid) and have been making a point to buy direct from manufacturers or locally wherever possible. Thanks for helping organize ways to make our voices heard.

    • Cindy Greenwood says:

Do we really need to engage in name calling? Can you make your point without being ugly? Worth a try.

    • Lucas says:

Agree with all the comments related to Scott being completely mis-aligned in terms of politic. It’s a shame because the business insights are interesting, but being anti-America and trying to defend criminal having entered US illegally is just a hard NO.

Scott, there is indeed a way to do actions: un-subscribe from your extreme left point of view.

    • Mike Lowe says:

Behold Scott, the archetypal champagne socialist elite.
He luxuriates in the safest, whitest, wealthiest pockets of the UK – far from the “enriched” zones plagued by knife crime, sexual assaults, welfare strain, and Friday prayers that turn streets into traffic-clogged prayer mats as a quiet flex of dominance.
From his gated bubble, he preaches the gospel of diversity, open borders, and compassion – while ensuring his own postcode stays refreshingly free of the very multiculturalism he demands for the rest of us.
Inclusion for thee, exclusion for me. Peak progressive virtue.

  441. Marc Jennings says:

Scott, did you complain when Clinton or Obama said “we’re a nation of immigrants but also a nation of laws” and proceeded to export sh*tloads of illegals? I would wager my bottom dollar NO.
You and your ilk are such lemmings. If the Supreme Court would rule that only citizens counted toward congressional apportionment your side would have locked the border ages ago.
Shame on you and your TDS.

  442. Big Chuggy says:

We must find ways to be the change, but I am fearful of the unintended consequences of doing economic harm to our country. The rich won’t feel it. Everyone else could suffer much pain. This battle should be won at the ballot box. We need real, rational leaders, not bait and switch candidates who are just as bad on the other side. But yes, cancel your unused subscriptions and perform financial hygiene, we should all do that anyway.

  443. Rob says:

We The People Thank You, Scott. Of course the boot lickers are going to populate this section. Never seen so many lost souls. Thank you rump for exposing them.

  444. Jacques Gravel says:

Hi Scott, I am a big fan from the first hour. However on this one, I have a different opinion / approach. Your strategy impacts the entire planet and is only a short term fix. Address the real problem, at the next midterm, get rid of Orange Julius Cesarus by regaining both chambers. Get your own Musk and buy the fuckin elections, this is what works in your corrupt, uneducated Greatest Country.

  445. Drake says:

Scott, I honestly like your business and motivational content. Love your affiliations with ucla and cal berkeley. However, the increase in content sympathetic with lack of law enforcement, immigration, especially the content on “prosecuting ICE and other admin peeps for merder when we get back in power ” (you and Kara Swisher clip), and the increase in political content simply turns me off. Will stay subscribed as I value differences of opinion but just sharing that your TDS is growing and is weird, imho.

    • The Real TDS is being MAGA says:

The real TDS is republicans inability to grapple with the truth that the historical and factual record establishes that Trump tried to coup the 2020 election by creating fake slates of electoral votes and pressuring his VP to use his fraudulent docs over the genuine, state certified ones in line with the constitution.

  446. Champ says:

I unsubscribed from Chat-GPT and AppleTV today. I think your ad for a drink before you drink alcohol is the wrong call to post on this Resist email. Maybe something less commercial and entitled.

  447. MP says:

I want to support this. I need an alternative to move my cloud storage to though and music option, before I stop giving Apple, Amazon, and AI’s my $$. And I don’t want to rely on DeepSeek for obvious.Suggestions?

This is why we need Lina Kahn back – stop the monopolies and give us options so we have more consumer power.

  448. Jim Connelly says:

Don Lemon , a journalist. Give me a break. This is why we have a judiciary. Let the facts come out. From the video I saw, he joined in the intrusion into the church like a giggling teenager.

  449. Steve says:

I was going to purchase some ZBiotics from your sponsor. But screw that – I’m boycotting. You’ve obviously been living in the UK too long. What a stupid idea.

  450. Jeffrey L Minch says:

Least thoughtful post you have ever made with a totally specious premise suggesting a moronic plan that is unrealistic and doomed.

Regardless of one’s politics there is abundant support for getting criminal illegal aliens who are murderers, sodomists, rapists, molesters, thieves, assailants TF out of the country.

ICE is doing exactly what the Congress passed laws for them to do.

Minnesota — unlike 31 other jurisdictions where ICE has peacefully conducted such operations — has decided to oppose Federal officers in the discharge of their Congressionally mandated duties.

This starts with the Governor and the Mayor of Minneapolis. They should both be charged with obstruction.

This is as basic a law and order program as exits. Dems and weirdos are against law and order. Got that.

    • Jeffrey is a tard says:

Nah dude, you’re a good little ideology warrior which is why you can’t see what the real truth is: Americans are OK with deportations and going after the criminals. You guys simultaneously say Obama was deporter-in-chief but then also say Dems want the criminals in the country. Dems didn’t complain about Obama’s deportations because it wasn’t done in such a way as to be a purposeful and malicious spectacle going after day workers at Home Depot and DoorDash drivers who are single mothers with no criminal record. Your inability to recognize this distinction only reinforces the judgement that you’re a totally captured ideological zealot. These are fascist tactics, and you’re a fascist apologist. Scum.

      • Thomas S says:

You’re right on everything except fascist tactics. These are American tactics. Germany copied American tactics, not the other way around. History lesson.

      • Jeffrey L Minch says:

Thoghtful and well reasoned comment. Thanks.

      • Mike Lowe says:

Nah, pure TDS in action. Trump says “go,” and you’re instantly against it – no debate, just reflex.
Leftist media’s hyping routine ICE ops like they’re new atrocities, but agents shot people under Obama and Biden without this meltdown. Your selective outrage is showing.
Biden let in 10M+ illegals, now they need to leave and get in line. The smart ones already self-deported. The ones fighting armed feds and getting handled? Suddenly they’re victims.
The left’s stoking violent resistance, cheering on Karens to obstruct federal agents. Any blood spilled? That’s on their hands, not the officers enforcing the law.

  451. Frederic @ nolowe.com says:

Scott, I was a fan, you were kind of cool and smart 15 years ago, then you got infected by the WOKE virus and now you are in late stages of that awful disease. Your constant virtue signaling is abhorrent and disgusting. Ideologies are so dangerous and your hypocrisy (you are worth $200M) is sickening. So I will tell you, on behalf of the sane “silent majority” that we will take you up on your order and UNSUBSCRIBE from all your podcasts, newsletter and other non sensical books…you adore money so am sure you’ll loose sleep. And one more thing, don’t call on protesters to show up violently with guns loaded and assault Ice agents enforcing the law. That’s just stupid and irresponsible! over and out!

  452. gs says:

What a loser. Cut off your nose to spite your face. Where was all the energy for the last 4 years when federal laws were not followed. Also, why are you supporting these radical protestors who are not following federal laws. This is a new low for you also

  453. peter says:

lemon’s arrest had ZERO to do with the white house hoping/expecting anything to happen to lemon in court. it simply had to do with making lemon’s life a pain in the butt for a little while (court dates, fees for a lawyer, and the general hassles of the court system).

  454. geo says:

Have there ever been successful boycotts? I can’t think of a single one.

    • Cindy Greenwood says:

Well, let’s see: there’s the Boston Tea Party, Montgomery Bus Boycott, United Farm Workers, boycotts against Starbucks, Sea World, Twitter/X, Tesla, Bud Light and Target, to name just a few. All ended with legislation and/or companies backing down from their policies. I say, let’s give Scott’s idea a try.

  455. Evan says:

    Thank you!!!

  456. Dan says:

You are a moron. One-sided with selective consideration of only the facts that support your biased view. Not exactly robust thought here.

    • Dan is a tard says:

Then post some facts to disprove his assertions, you low IQ clown.

      • Kevin says:

Jenny….i have a wonderful life. Married 30 years, 2 degrees, a dog, stock market is up and ILLEGAL immigrants are being deported. My life is pretty damn good. Sounds like you might need to go get another nose piercing or hair color.

        • Wes says:

Glad you feel life is good. You were lucky enough to be born here. Had you not won that lottery, there’s a good chance you’d be an illegal as well. If you think the stock market is up because of, as opposed to in spite of, DT, then I suspect your degrees were not in economics. Bubbles defy intrinsic values. For a time. And we’re in two: AI and crypto. And with DT adding more to our national debt than any other president in history, and rerouting supply chains globally, we’re in for a market decline like none of us have seen in our lifetimes. I suspect you’ll disagree, but within 2-3 years, I want you to remember this comment.

  457. Eddie says:

    Scott: I spend $200k – $300k a month on whatever I want.
The rest of us: You first boss.

  458. Cindy says:

    Thank you for this

  459. Douglas says:

Great idea. Especially for all those non Americans (yes there are people who do not live in USA) who cannot vote the B.. out of office. I am cancelling Netflex, plus no buying of any American based fast food providers

    • Jeffrey L Minch says:

Wow, cancelling Netflix. I can feel the power flowing across the country. Never saw that coming. Cancelling Amazon Prime?

    • Cath Stent says:

Hello from Australia. Goodbye Amazon, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube ( unfortunately as a Gmail etc user, I can’t delete them all). I would encourage people to provide feedback when you leave. My feedback was, I don’t want to keep funding the organisations that support the Trump administration and thanks for the idea Scott Galloway 😉

      • Freeride Friday says:

Why don’t we form a coalition of the willing millionaires in coalition with the under 200k gross to stop investing and purchasing From the mag complacit 7 , and all other complacit retailers like target and Amazon. Let’s not put the burden on the worker class but make it a worker class and the birgousue to come together and take down the 1%
